Kurt Cobain killed big hair bands

but I’m indulging myself with Cinderella, Whitesnake, Motley Crue and others today…Axl Rose and Kurt had a beef I hear.

If you haven’t heard Cinderella’s Gypsy Road, give it a try. My favorite track.

For Whitesnake, it’s gotta be the Slide It In album, followed closely by Still of the Night.

And of course GNR November Rain…

I was never really into the hair bands.

Yeah basically Grunge killed off this genre of music.

I love Grunge music!

Maybe they just realized how ridiculous they looked.

I was / am obsessed with Kurt cobain.

His music was genius. One of my favorites is “in bloom” calling out jocks and his shallow fans.

“If any of you, in any way, hate homosexuals, people of a different color or women, please do this one favor for us — leave us the ■■■■ alone. Don’t come to our shows and don’t buy our records.”

Nirvana was one of the best live bands I’ve seen.

I don’t think any single one person killed off those cock rock bands, they just had their 15 minutes of fame. They had the spotlight, then like every trend it was time for them to die off.

Hair metal was kinda like a weird child of the glam of New Wave and the 70s punk movement mixed with 80s machismo.

Cock rock? Haven’t heard that one before.

I just called them sl uts.

In the same vein, I can hardly use the word machismo for pretty boys who shacked up with any chick who would feed them and put a roof over their heads, before they got famous. Lol. A regular box of hamsters.

Machismo, no.

Have a soft spot for the earlier hair metal years cause I’m the right age for it, but the musicians themselves were often dirtbags.

Love your post! :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh thank you!

I was kinda worried that I came across sounding like a music critic with a stick up their ass.

…and there was a good reason for it!

So many great bands from the eighties to 90’s who never made it. Nirvana weren’t the best band in their time. Yeah. It was decent music but I’d say the Pixies were earlier and had way better records.

It was inevitable that the whole underground music scene would break and lucky for Nirvana it was them. Plenty of great books out there on the subject and if you want to have a good read about it try " Our Band Could Be Your Life " by Michael Azzerrad, ( not sure of spelling but title is cool ).

It’s a good read and will point you to some of the great American bands who paved the way for Nirvana.

Well spoken lad.

There were some bands in the 80s who were alternative and “made it” because they had a sound that record execs were looking for. A couple that comes to mind are The Cure and Echo and the Bunnymen.

But a lot of bands like The Melvins, The Meat Puppets, The Wipers etc. etc. were genuinely good bands that paved the way for groups like Nirvana yet never got much of the limelight.

surfer rosa is one of my fave albums by the Pixies…but Kurt in “nevermind” blew everyone away…I remember the first time I heard “smells like teen spirit” on the radio I was like, “what is this??”
