@TomCat, you’ve inspired me to go for my FAA drones license. I’ve been looking into a few prep courses, and it will be mostly a hobby, but I think it would be fun. I’m a wee bit of a drone enthusiast, but only own a super cheap one.
You don’t need a license to fly a drone for a hobby. Only if you are doing it commercially for money.
But good luck.
I have a drone my son gave me. I have never opened it yet. I bought one for myself once but my wife gave it to her father as a gift.
It depends on where you live. I live near a military base, your not allowed to fly drones without a license here.
I want to see if I can find a side gig flying drones. Perhaps working for a realtor service taking pictures of houses and landscape. I used to be an EMT so maybe I could even get involved in search and rescue. I havent done too much research into that though.
Drones are a new tool for surveyors and such and there’s people out here who do it as jobs. We had a person turn up at our cricket club to assess light poles. Used a drone. I’ve also seen them on the highways doing surveying work. It’s a cool little hobby with some electronics and stuff but it can also be a job/career for some.
I thought about surveying, I’ll have to look into that as well.
