My medicaid is up for a review and i received a letter saying i wont get it anymore i am on haldol and latuda. I am going to ask my Pdoc to take me of latuda and put me on a med with a generic. I was reading reviews on zyprexa and that looked good i was just curious if that worked for you.
Zyprexa is a tried and true Atypical Antipsychotic, usually pretty effective.
It’s a sedating medication - 2 main things to watch out for with this drug are rapid weight gain and Diabetes.
I was on a pretty low dose 7.5mg for only one month - it was not as effective for my symptoms, but my dose was low.
I had to get off of it because of thyroid and high blood glucose levels.
Best of luck to you.
Man I’d say zyprexa is the most sedating med I’ve taken… Totally knocks me out.
There still really aren’t any good options. Abilify is generic now and that one does away with the sedation and sexual dysfunction, but people complain that oppositely it’s too stimulating and can cause insomnia.
There is also seroquel… I’d probably suggest you look into that if you haven’t.
Zyprexa is a heavy hitter… Go down that road and your body might wind up being unrecoverable unless you are a highly active person and eat a very good refined diet… Almost either ketogenic with vitamins or vegan…
Good luck man… Talk with your doctors.
Works good for me I’ve been on it a few years. I had bad delusions. I didn’t get the weight gain with it luckily. It’s a bit sedating/calming and makes you sleep a lot.
I couldn’t accept the weight gain, only took it for 2 weeks.
can live with the weight gain my mental health is 100% with zyprexa
Zyprexa is extremely powerful, it can do a number on your blood sugar and give you diabetes, I was on it for a year or so but I can’t tolerate it anymore due to the side effects, I get extremely ill if I try to take it. Thankfully I have found clozapine which actually works and has alot fewer side effects.
When I got put on Zyprexa I was ravenous so much so that I would eat 5 full meals a day. I put on like 30 pounds too. I kept getting lots of random nosebleeds also. I got switched to Geodon and lost all the extra weight and then some. Geodon was a really better fit for me.
Three words: Explosive weight gain.
When I was on Zyprexa I was always mildly depressed, I craved sugar, and I slept a lot. I gained 60 lbs. in 120 days, but I was starting from a very low weight for me. It did control my symptoms, though. I recommend Geodon and Seroquel. They control my symptoms with few side effects.
Zyprexa never did help me. It made me sicker than I already was. I took it for years cause I had a poor psychiatrist who couldn’t help me much, like he didn’t really care. It wore me out, like burnt out. Finally got a new doctor who got me off it. Latuda is much better.
I wish i could stay on latuda but its 2000 dollars so i cant it has to be a generic drug for insurance to cover it
I’m on weight gain 2000, I mean Olanzapine(ZYPREXA)! It’s a bit sedating, but I’ve now got the weight under control.
What does it come to with a monthly prescription with the LATUDA Savings Card?
I’ve had a successful relationship with the generic version of Geodon (Zeldox in Canada).
Thanks @shutterbug i will ask for the medication
I was on zyprexa, got off it and went on geodon to lose weight. I lost 15-20 pounds but in that process I lost my mind completely…so now I’m back on zyprexa a year later and I feel so much better.
I’m taking adderall to help with hunger and so far it’s going well.zyprexa does make you gain weight BUT you can work out and have a healthy diet to help that.
Zyprexa made me fat. It made me sick. I took it for a long time. After awhile, it didn’t help anymore. I relapsed. I hated it. My doctor moved away. I now take Latuda samples, 140 mg. Seems quite a lot better for managing my disorders.
I find Zyprexa good for the mental health issues but I do tend to eat quite a lot and put on around 30lbs. It can be quite sedating, but this is really only in the morning when I get up though. I do sleep longer than I used too, maybe an extra 1/2 hours per night but this is good for me as I was an insomniac before. I take 15/20mg per day, it has varied over 2 years.
It’s working well for my paranoia but I still have the negative symptoms (there aren’t really any meds for these). It has caused some weight gain although I’m loosing it now. It doesn’t have the sedation and calming effects I got from quetiapine.
Zyprexa works well for me. I have to be careful around sweets because I will gain weight if I am not careful. I have a personal trainer and watch what I eat, so I am slowly but surely losing weight
