Is this considered high functioning/high functioning day?

I’m a bit unsure what high functioning is (maybe someone can explain) but here is my day and a bit of my week.

Today so far I changed the bed sheets and took down the Christmas tree. Did some laundry and vacuumed.

My week is in a fairly good routine. It consists of 2 groups. Playing a bit of video games but not much else. At the weekends I stay with family and go on walks in the country.

My delusions pass through my mind but fleet and I manage them. I am not hearing voices currently. But have side effects.

I do not work. I don’t socialise aside from the 2 groups.

I am sleeping relatively well these days.

I am wondering if I am high functioning or low or medium.

I eat healthy and my house is well kept. I shower every other day but wear same clothes for days.

Just wondering where I fall.

I’d like to improve on things.

if you are doing your grooming you are not low functioning anymore in my book

you could try to have some other hobbies beside games
something that will help you in the long run like yoga and exercises done routinely
use this initiative you have for self-improving (books and learning)
you could do many other things… especially if you have enough money…

Thanks

It is very difficult for me to read. I used to read a lot. Not just books but music. I got my degree in music.

Now I struggle with that. But i started to read short books of facts.

My regular exercise is walking at the weekends and on Tuesdays with a walking group. But I wish it was more intense exercise.

I lack enjoyment i think this is my main struggle and socialising. But I hope this can improve this year. I see the importance of this snd care about people. I just do not get pleasure from it and struggle with it.

I’d say medium functioning.

I don’t work either but am considered “very high functioning.” I think you are on the high functioning side. Just because the average sz is probably not able to live independently with such structure. Maybe if you think you are high functioning, perhaps a part time job or some other productive activity. I think if you are able to stay occupied all day and not isolate and do some sort of intellectual activity like reading, you are doing pretty well.

If you were high functioning you would be on pixels special forum. (Does it actually exist, someone help me out here.)

I think many people see a high functioning schizo is able to live a normal life and work or study and manage hygiene and home and social life.

They live normal lives perhaps without receiving financial help from the government or parents.

Maybe those who are medium functioning can live I independently and manage garbage, dishes, hygiene, cooking, grocery shopping etc all by themselves but can not work at all.

And low functioning may be when you need supported living 24/7.

I was not overly keen on the new high functioning forum by invite only .
All those excluded and there are different functioning different times and some educated people that do not work are they still high functioning for being so educated or popular good looking ones …would they be welcome to high functioning forum…??

Depends on who’s criteria you’re basing it on. Early on, I was told I was high -functioning because I could catch a bus when I was 19 or 20. It startled me because I saw absolutely no big deal about riding a bus. I would say, you are not in the low-functioning category.

Thanks guys. I was wondering. I consider myself to be doing relatively well these days. But was wondering where I fell. 4 years ago I was living in a home with everything being done for me 24/7. It’s taken time.

2017 was my first year living independantly since 2009. I did try last year but I got sick. Before that I was in supportive housing at my mums house and s home.

I’ve come along way. And I intent to keep going that way.

I know many here think you need to have a job to be high functioning and I really disagree. Many people on this forum seem to be able to care for themselves so you seem “medium” here but compared to the great majority, you are on the good side. Keep it up and find some community to join like church or volunteering. I think that is a very good step to take.

I am of the same understanding about how you draw a more solid line beteewn high, medium, low.

I think there are many of us who can function in day to day activities. Yet we lack in someway that keeps us from employment: bad memory, cant get along with others, sleep problems and such.

Couple that with the fact that medication requires a monthly appointment. I had very few employers who will allow time off every month, even a half day.
