Is there any psychiatric drug that doesn't carry risk for tardive dyskinesia

I read in a news site that 2 in 10 people who take AP drugs develop permanent movement disorder (brain damage) that affects breathing /heart -mouth - limbs
all the newly approved drugs carries the same risk !
so doesn’t that mean that you need treatments that act indirectly to the Nervous system Like Acetylcysteine -Sodium nitroprusside ( both proven to releive psychosis symtoms just like Aps & even faster /more efficacious)
so why do you have to take several drugs that mess with your body/carry risk for several irreversible heart /movement /metabolic diseases ?!

There are…don’t know the whole list off my head. But I’m on abilify which has no risk of TD. In the book Surviving Schizophrenia it listed each symptom and the meds most likely to cause it and the meds least likely to cause it. TD was one of the symptoms listed!

Eh? Where did you see that? I always thought TD was possible with abilify.

Surviving schizophrenia said it!!! I’m pretty sure!! I wish I had the book here I’d look it up and take a pic but the books at my rents house. I’m pretty sure it said it cuz I remember it putting my mind at ease.

Some people may develop muscle-related side effects while taking aripiprazole. The technical terms for these are “extrapyramidal effects” (EPS) and “tardive dyskinesia” (TD). Symptoms of EPS include restlessness, tremor, and stiffness.

The atypicals carry far less risk of TD, but the risk is not zero. Abilify, Geodon, seroquel, risperidone, etc. that’s why doctors prescribe these more often now. Of course, those come with their own side effects. It’s all about what you can live with.

I think you should not be afraid of TD with atipycals. If symptoms do occur though, drop that med immediately (before it becomes permanent) and switch to another.

I developed TD in my limbs from Haldol and i’m also on latuda and the doctor said he is going to leave me on those meds since they are ones of the few meds that help symptoms of psychosis
