Is that why sz is called early dementia?

Cognitive and negative symptoms. I feel like I have mild dementia for real since having sz.

“The idea that schizophrenia is a distinct brain disorder is rooted in Emil Kraepelin’s concept of dementia praecox (Kraepelin 1910). This concept emphasized one particular aspect of the disorder: the onset of persistent cognitive disturbances early in life.”

Sz basically makes you stupid.

I also read that sz shares a lot of genes with intellectual disability. Sucks.

I’ve never heard that sz is early dementia. Can you post a link to an article about that? I don’t pass dementia tests. That’s why I’m curious

@LilyoftheValley
That was the name of sz when they first discovered it. It affects ppl differently, some have severe cognitive symptoms while others have none. I have moderate cognitive and severe negative symptoms. Sucks.

Dementia praecox (a “premature dementia” or “precocious madness”) is a disused psychiatric diagnosis that originally designated a chronic, deteriorating psychotic disorder characterized by rapid cognitive disintegration, usually beginning in the late teens or early adulthood. Over the years, the term “dementia praecox” was gradually replaced by “schizophrenia”, which remains in current diagnostic use.”

On top of the cognitive symptoms I have severe negative symptoms staying in bed all day everyday, 90% of my time.

When I was diagnosed with dementia praecox, the doctor said I was very intelligent. I was not strong in my ability to direct my mind and use it.

Thats part of the intelligence. Intelligence isn’t intelligence if you can’t use it. That what my therapist said too.

That’s putting an emotional context to intelligence.

What you mean? Intelligence is nothing if you can’t use it.

Because it is work to understand, to grow mentally. And if you don’t want to learn, you won’t. Some families have such secrets that they don’t want their kids to grow to know and understand.

I don’t feel any dumber with sz than before I had it I’m just now lazy as sh!t

@Aziz You are far from having dementia.

Some symptoms resemble early stages but dementia is much more severe than sz.
