are people with sz still treated different?

I know I have been treated differently. Ive been treated like a piece of trash by a previous employer and my college. At my current job however I’ve been treated amazingly well after I told them. I even got a little award for putting in hard work.

Um, yeah…
but is it more about the distrust in our face that puts off the others to
find out if we are worth having for a friend?

Yes, the stigma is everywhere. Sometimes it’s a sideways glance, sometimes it’s a lost job. It’ll never go away without a mass education campaign.

Even with mass education I feel it will still be stigmatized! Especially if someone is convinced they are being monitored by the government or on religious rants people will just want to get away and probably tell others “this person is crazy!”

When I first started at my job the youngsters all assumed I would have trouble using computers because of my grey hair. They also make assumptions if you’re overweight (which I am right now). There’s always some sort of stigma.

Get out stigma, get! (kicks stigma down the stairs)

Yes. Could be worse, I guess.

Lol! That’s funny! If only it was that simple!

My boss’ boss, upon learning of my illness, asked my psychiatrist if I was dangerous. Not a direct indication of stigma, but a idea of what people are thinking.

I never told anyone until recently. I told my aunt about my mental illness, but she seemed to just ask about the medication i take.

I rarely tell people though that i have been diagnosed. I did once and my friend disappeared from the internet after i told him i have schizophrenia. Though we always have long chats then he does that, maybe he’ll come back after he does his own thing.

I’m kinda scared of being labeled as the crazy one that everyone is hush hush about during family get togethers as i slowly spiral into the craziness and completely lose touch with reality. I’m getting there thats for sure.

Some people like sz. They are more interesting to people

I am on a disability support pension and don’t have to deal with stigma at the workplace anymore.

Of course. There are so much stigma towards mental illness.

Definitely they pay more for things like life insurance and then there is ofcourse discrimination and mocking people when you tell them you have schizophrenia
