Is Bipolar more difficult to deal with than Schizophrenia?

I wanted to know how people with Bipolar deal with their illness. I think people Bipolar are also given the same meds… so how tough do they find it?

Generally, people with bipolar have a better prognosis than people with schizophrenia. However, every person is unique and experiences their disease uniquely. One person’s schizophrenia might be much easier for them to deal with than another person’s bipolar disorder. There is no point in comparing who has it worse.

Sorry. I was just wondering because a friend of mine has been recently diagnosed with Bipolar.

My Dx before SZA was bipolar and I had it much easier then. I only had mood episodes that responded well to medication. I was functioning and happy.
Then I developed SZA was my functioning went down and I have treatment resistant psychosis.
I was definitely better off then.
But my experience is just my experience and not for everyone with bipolar who had it harder.

Do people with bipolar usually get racing thoughts as a norm? I really don’t find that pleasant.Sometimes I have had this.

Generally, racing thoughts are only with a hypo/mania and mixed episode.

My diagnosis, sz but no psychosis, currently, ptsd hell yeah, recovering anorexic, acquired long qts, fear of abandonment, working on not being a people pleaser and validity. My whole family is ■■■■■■ up. And my in laws don’t want me around because they’ve seen me once a little unstable and my 10th grade nephew shouldn’t be around me…because I could be dangerous…vomit here because they just thought I had a minor mental illness until a couple years ago…oh don’t drive but have a drive to be healthy…even with tardive dyskinesia I can curl 25 lbs 3 sets of 12 reps…with both right and left arm. Since med change only 4 sets of 25 push-ups with 45 sec break btwn reps…squat and deadlift like a mtf beast. I totally mix things up. Could start competing in some stuff but too worried about mental health.

That was fun to see how far and more motivation

My diagnosis was bipolar for many years.
It changed over to SZA bipolar type but I still have strong bipolar tendencies.
Bipolar can be very difficult to deal with but it still has a better prognosis than Schizophrenia.
Having psychotic features complicates the picture greatly.

I take a antipsychotic and antidepressant combination and my mood has been stable for over a year.

Both are serious illnesses. Neither is a favorable diagnosis.

Schizophrenia is worse usually with abnormal false reality and seeing/hearing, imagining things not there. Bipolar can be extreme and sometimes ovelaps when delve into the behavior. Some need lifelong meds to control behavior; sadly it usually gets worse unless the root is not psychosis but some extreme abuse or drugs but some can be permenant.

This is like asking which flavor is better chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry. There are degrees of severity for each of the conditions you mention.

The worst thing about Bipolar I is the severe insomnia… then the evil voices.

When I was diagnosed with Bipolar, for a brief period of time, I was very, very sick. I was in and out of the hospital every two weeks, literally for about three years. It was pure hell. I was so, so depressed and bound and determined to end my life that I couldn’t stand it. Why I didn’t is anybody’s guess. Strong will to live? Yes, the insomnia is bad, true, but the suicidal thoughts and gestures are the worst things.

There are a lot of similarities between Schizoaffective and Bipolar type 1 with psychotic features.
They are both very hard to deal with.

i thought they got lithium or something

mood disorders even though they can be disabling are not imo anyway near as bad as sz,

both together though is worse i think

Much better prognosis.
Much higher suicide rate.
No point in comparing.
