I'm drinking again

I had six years of sobriety until a few months ago. Then I got drunk, and yesterday I got drunk again. Now I’m wanting to go to the store and get some more beer. But I know where this kind of thing leads me. I usually suffer after a drinking binge. Going to AA isn’t an option for me because I have serious issues that are too sensitive to discuss in AA. That is a pretty serious betrayal of AA doctrine, though. “Rigorous honesty” is one of their strongest beliefs.

I would stop now. You obviously have some insight as you are posting here. The longer you feed the addiction the harder it will be to stop. Get off the train now before you get dependent.

I have a friend who is an alcoholic and he really cant kick it. Has been hospitalised multiple times in the last year (due to the booze not MH). Very sad :frowning:

I’d also add : its not such a big deal to get drunk a couple of times a month or even once a week or so, but every day is just gonna end badly.

Yes, sobering up after a binge is usually rough, and I get out of control and do crazy things when I’m drinking.

I’m sorry to hear that @crimby .

Try to take it 24 hours at a time. Just don’t drink for the next 24 hours. If you make it that far, go for another 24 hours.

Also consider going to AA. You don’t have to speak while you’re there if you don’t want to.

There’s really no such thing. Maybe not something you can discuss in a meeting, but something you can discuss with a sponsor privately if it pertains to working your program.

Drinking beer on these medication is another reason to quit. It takes a toll.

Im sure you know this from AA. But just say to yourself, im not going to drink for today. Dont Worry about tommorow. Small steps mate.

You may not agree - but buy some shandy thats got about 0.2 alcohol in it. Have a few of those and you will feel you have had a drink. Round here you can get 3 litres for a quid. Barrs.

Its all in your head mate. So long as you can challange that - you should be ok.

And most importantly - dont beat yourself up about it.

I am also working on recovery. My motivation for not drinking, or say binge drinking, is that I have been through some terrible withdrawals.

Meds don’t work well and when I stopped drinking after a binge I would get voices.

Hope you can kick the beer again.

aww, dude…!! you were doing soooo good…stop it…throw away your alcohol and sober up…you are going to get in big trouble with your paranoia and alcohol to take away the inhibitions…bad bad…I’m scared for you.

At some point I decided I don’t like getting drunk and decided to listen to that voice, because it’s true. And yeah, alcohol and these medications that we take really don’t mix, that’s a extra good reason to stop drinking.

I’m much more happy with myself now. I don’t know how long ago since I stopped, but it’s years.

I do drink non alcohol beer because I like the taste, but some people say it’s a bad idea if it gives you cravings to get drunk. It doesen’t for me, but that’s something one needs to consider.

I think that is the motivation of every alcoholic who is trying to sober up - that memory of that last withdrawal from alcohol.

Is there an online help forum for alcoholics where you can be anonymous or a help line to talk to someone or a rehab ?

Hope you will be ok and get through this.
