I think I might have read here or there about Princess Diana and an article regarding some form of depression. Although I am not certain.
As for Prince Harry, I can’t really speak for others and their reasons for caring about raising awareness for an issue even if it pertains to myself and others in similar situations somehow. I’d like to imagine maybe Prince Harry had a friend with a mental illness or experienced a moment that moved him with a person suffering from a mental health problem. Maybe as he has matured, he simply has a empathy for commoners and our struggles. At least that’s what I’d like to believe.
But for all I know, years of royal inbreeding has brought on some genetic disorders that affects mental health. (Sorry, cruel joke I know but I could not help myself.)
I know sometimes I come across as a smug ■■■■■■■, but honestly, I’ve grown to respect Prince Harry.
Prince Harry comes across as a really nice person. My mother was a type I diabetic whose disease killed her but I’m not an activist for diabetic research. Maybe that’s just what he cares about for whatever reason
I think one of the major differences is that when I grin, my eyes nearly look closed. Well they more than nearly look that way, but they remain open even as I smile. Honest. But if I had a dollar for every time I was asked to smile then told, “Okay, now open your eyes.” for school pictures, every year I’d probably have enough for a complimentary large pizza from Domnio’s.
Shooting victims and murders are not uncommon sadly, however children shooting other children on a school campus is rare. I worry these tragedies will continue to increase as they have been steadily increasing in occurence. The shooter was 11 years old, his father abandoned him and his mother passed away several years ago. According to the report, he was influenced by a video game called Natural Selection. So far it has been reported that a teacher was killed and at least 6 were wounded.
It is odd how desensitized we are becoming. It feels like another report of a school shooting. So far not there not many deaths have been reported. I am worried some of the wounded will not survive. I know that as far as numbers go, not many were killed but that does not lessen the pain relatives of the victims are feeling.
There is a major homicide problem in Mexico. In the last year, there were more than 31,000 homicides. That is more than 100 homicides a day on average. Mexico has about half the population of the U.S.A. last year was not the only year in the last decade with that had more than 30,000 homicides. In the last 10 years, it is estimated that more than 100,000 people have been murdered, and it is likely more than 250,000. Those are the type of numbers of deaths found in wars. It has become normal to find out on a weekly basis that a person who you knew or someone an acquaintance knew was killed.
This is a song that was written in Spanish by Ruben Blades who is a Harvard alumnus, as interpreted musically by the band Mana.
The thing is, people often assume every murder is over a drug dispute. That is not always the case, sometimes a person just knew about a drug operation… or worse, a person was a relative of someone involved in drug trafficking.
Also if you want to put it into perspective, imagine if a person once sold an ounce of marijuana. Rival cartel members might kill not only the person who sold him the ounce but the person who dealt the ounce too. Even if it was a one time thing. Sadly, it is not always a one time thing, often it is more than an ounce, and usually it is not marijuana that gets people killed immediately. It is over the course of drug transactions and any missing or skimmed profits that gets groups of people killed who are involved in the packaging and/or distribution of drugs. The worse part is that sometimes they come after family members.
It is a cycle of violence. Imagine a person being affiliated with a group that murdered a child’s father 10 years ago? The person has since distanced himself from that group and tried to lead a better life with a small fortune he gained through illicit activities. Well, now the fatherless child has grown into a young adult, he wants revenge and knows that in killing a rival with a reputation in the world of narcotics he will gain status or rank in his position with the cartel he has become affiliated with, and that person he is planning on exacting his revenge on… he too has sons…
One more important point I’d like to make, among the victims are also members of law enforcement and their relatives. Sometimes for not taking a bribe.
Thousands of people in Puerto Rico are without electricity at the moment. A few days ago it more than 500,000 were without electricity. At least 2,000 people are displaced. A series of earthquakes have rocked Puerto Rico.
Watching the news on television repeatedly speak on Iran shooting down a passenger plane, the U.S. drone strike of a top Iranian General in Iraq, and the retaliation from Iran by attacking U.S. bases with rockets. A failed drone strike of an Iranian target in Yemen who funds anti-American terrorist groups, the threat of an attack on U.S. embassies, misinformation being spread by pro-Iranian posts on Twitter, it is difficult to watch and read. Though I did not place the reports in chronological order, that is mostly the order of the news segments and articles I have read recently.
It got me thinking about why people in the middle east harbor a hatred for the United States. I know some might say the following article has an anti-American sentiment, I don’t necessarily view it that way. I’d say it has a more realistic perspective of the views people in the Middle East have of the U.S.
They view U.S. troops as invaders. The soldiers aren’t to blame, they are following orders. So then who is responsible for the turmoil?
This is a quote from a video game character. There are similar quotes from Patton as well as others.
“War is when the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing each other.”
When U.S. forces it went into Afghanistan, it was in response to a terrorist attack on U.S. soil.
I do not mean to trivialize the sacrifices of men and women who have served or are currently enlisted.
Most terrorists would kill any U.S. citizen if given the chance.
I’d read briefly about this a couple days ago. I think it’d be a good idea to share this article.
I know there are posters in these forums who are affected by this. I hope everyone finds safe shelter. Sometimes natural disasters bring out this noble trait in humanity, empathy.
As Americans, now is a time in which we should put our differences aside and help each other in these trying times. This weather pattern has devastated many people’s homes, it has claimed lives, it is happening even now as I type this up. It is affecting over 40 million people. Let us not ignore the plights our fellow Americans find themselves in. The thing about natural disasters is that they do not discriminate on who they affect, rich, poor, black, white, anyone can be affected. In turn, we should not discriminate the affected either, instead we should see past our differences and find ways to help each other… even Puerto Ricans.
(I thought I’d throw in a little bit of humor.)
Well that’s enough of my crazy inner thoughts for now.
I still believe in the goodness of humanity, it becomes more apparent when people interact on a person to person basis in the physical presence of each other.
Yes, a couple of my meds has gone up in price. But I don’t take pain meds. My husband takes pain meds but I don’t know if their cost has gone up or not. I should look into that.
