If life isn't real

At my core, I feel that nothing is real. However, simulation theory says this could be true. We are all in a computer program. We could be simulated by some alien supercomputer or something unimaginably more powerful. In the past it was considered a delusion, but is it really? Is anybody really real? Am I really real? Are we really in the matrix, living our “lives” as “sheep” and there is more, than what we see or can imagine?

I ask this because this topic has reached the top major physicists and they say statistically, we really can be a simulation. I have thought we were in a simulation for years, but it was considered a delusion. Is it still considered one? Or am I correct in that nothing is real?

Sounds like a great topic for Reddit. That’s where you should go if you want your delusions confirmed.

Since you’re asking, my opinion is that life is real. Neo told me.

I have the same ideas

You know, perhaps my problem is an issue with philosophy rather than psychology. Though I’ll bet 99% of psychologists would call it a delusion.

@shutterbug, reddit may be a good place to ask this, thanks. Probably in the philosophical areas? Though they’d probably call me crazy.

@77nick77, lol, Neo. opinions are great, but just that. I feel it’s what you feel through and through. It’s like a special “sense” you get with limited “hints” that say it’s not real.

I guess my big problem is whether that means my life can be altered by outside forces that I know nothing about. Like an experiment, changing everything around me to see how it affects me. Recording me, following me, manipulating me, people knowing my thoughts… if desired, can kill me at will with nobody batting an eye.

When does philosophical views become delusional I wonder?

I wonder why that is.

I cant add to this because of the rules, but if you really wanted an explananation creeds of different kinds may be the answer. I would wholly discourage you to pursue this further though.

Philosophy is pretty dangerous for sz patients in the sense that i may make you stop thinking about what is our reality. We are here, we feel this and our senses only show as much, therefore reality is real

And not only that but unreality is unreal.

Thanks. I guess with us SZ patients there is no “anchor” to keep us grounded. I myself can obviously get overwhelmed by different philosophical ideas.

Taking “reality” as real is just a hard concept to hold onto though. I still feel otherwise though. I guess I just can’t help it?

If you think reality is unreal you should see my utility bill.

I want a new computer program if this isn’t real. I feel cheated like someone (alien I suppose?) used a cheat code to get me in this screwy existence. Damn it! I wanna do over….

News just came out for britain that there is no energy usage cap during our cost of living crisis. Im now not too excited to face the same horror :upside_down_face:

That’s just it, they push you to your absolute limit to see if you break. Others “who are way better off” are fake and are simply there to show us what life “could” be, but will never be. As another form of manipulation.

To all, sorry if I seem off. This has been an issue of mine for years. Even on meds, it still poses a problem. Especially since “simulation theory” is an actual physics thing now. It just kinda freaks me out. Like I’m right and everything I’ve been told that is a delusion is actually coming to pass as real, despite 10+ years of being told the opposite. Thanks for listening.

In physics terms/words are used different in everyday language. If we say everything is a simulation, it doesnt neccessarily translate to everyday language or understanding of simulation. I hope this helps friend. Becauae i can see this is really pressuring your thoughts

Gravity for example is a force in everyday language but in physics (current day physics) it is an effect of time and space distortion and not necessarily a physical force

No problem discussing what you are thinking about. I’m not sure and I’ve experienced different stuff so I try not to say “never “ too often. Best of luck to you

We live in a society living as humans

No, simulation theory is not psychotic. People have all sorts of ideas about life. But a healthy professor in physics…

  • Reflects on this. He doesn’t say it is surely true, he says his calculations say it is not 100% impossible. That is vastly different. There’s a billion other theories about life, that are not 100% impossible either, based on what a few people think.
  • Boxes it in. He doesn’t go from a simulation calculation, to creepy forces are controlling my every move, to they will surely kill me.
  • Doesn’t get so hyperfocused that it goes at the cost of his life, self-care.
  • Doesn’t get so frightened and overwhelmed, that it harms himself or others.
  • Discusses this in a socially acceptable context.

All that, is not you. Or me. Thus, for people like us, it is better to avoid this line of thinking. And focus on growing tomato plants in our garden and chatting with the neighbour. Or whatever real life thing gets you grounded. You won’t get stalked by creepy forces and killed. And if philosophy makes you fear that, stop reading about such theories. It doesnt help you.

Wholeheartedly agree with all of this. Great explanation.
