There has been in the news that Russia may take a military action if we join the NATO. We have not been in any war in the past 77 years after the 2nd WW. I wish we will not be attacked.
I wouldnāt worry about it too much. Joining NATO would likely reduce the chances of Russia attacking you. If Russia were to attack you and you were a member of NATO, 30 countries would declare war on Russia.
Try to steer clear of politics in this thread.
If P goes nuclear it wonāt matter anyway, and itās doubtful heāll waste his less rusty nukes on countries like Finland which has no retaliatory weapons or US bases. Putin is already losing badly in Ukraine, whatever plans he had for Eastern Europe heāll be focusing on his own survival. You probably heard of the latest care package Biden is sending to Ukraine. But I do wisn Anonymous hacked Russian TV and showed to its citizens the scale of the horror being currently unleashed on the Ukrainians. Also, for whatever is worth, no one here in Denmark is really interested in leaving Nato.
PS. Haha and letās not forget about the Winter War.
USA is in a pretty good place geographically. Neither Mexico nor Canada are military threats, and everybody else is across an ocean.
I wouldnāt worry too much.
Or do you live in Europe? I guess that might be a little different, but Iām still optimistic.
Russia has the capabilities of firing off multiple nuclear missiles and hitting different cities in the United States with a push of the button.
Yeah Iām scared.
I am in Finland, northern Europe. We have a very long border with Russia. I think that a NATO membership will be good for us. Russia has tried to threaten us, but we have the right to make our own decisions. This war in Ukraine has made the NATO membership more popular here. Just recently Finland participated in common military exercises with the NATO in Norway if I recall right.
I was watching YouTube today and learned about the Soviet invasion of Finland in 1939. I was surprised to hear about it.
Sounds like your government is deciding in just a few weeks whether to join or not, and your PM stated their decision will not be ābased on fearā. Putin is not in a position to wage another war, and Finland is in a good place right now to address the NATO situation before something like that could happen to them. I donāt live there though so I donāt have your same fears, but it sounds like your country is on top of it.
Sir Winston Churchill commented ā¦ āFinland shows what free men can doā when he commented on the Winter War in 1939. . I thought it was a good comment.
Sadly history does not leave nations permanent peace. The closest Iāve seen is Switzerland but back in the early 19th century even they were being run over by Napoleon.
