Bettas can last for a long time if the conditions are right. I kept tropical fish as a kid. My favorite fish is the see through Glass Fish. I loved watching my old aquarium at night while laying in bed. Twas peaceful.
I had Charles I for 3 years. Then I was moving from NYC to LA, and I couldnāt find anyone to take him. People told me to flush him!! And I refused.
My sister had aquariums in her house. So I asked her if she would take Charles. Problem was, she lived in Florida.
So I researched how to properly package and mail a fish. I put hand warmers in the box, packaged him up nice and tight. Then overnight mailed him to Florida. My sister got him. He was fine and lived another year!
I have a great fish story. Our neighbors had a beloved fish for three years. The neighbors asked us to keep him. It died within the first twenty four hours. I feel really bad. The neighbor kids were horrified. I canāt look them in the face when they come visit. Iām a monster.
That doesnāt surprise me. Iām very sensitive to pets and all creatures for that matter so such people rank low on my list of whatever list it is.
Is it wrong that Iām laughing??? Itās probably because you prefaced with, āI have a great fish story!ā
Yep! The fish probably went into shock. Different temp. Different water conditions. An enemy of the fish perhaps.
I quickly learned not to put two Angel Fish in the same tank. Sucked!
When I was a kid learning English, my teacher decided to let me take care of her hamster for a weekend. I donāt know how it helped me learn English but getting it on this little plastic globe and seeing it run around the house was the cutest thing ever.
Yah I cleaned out the cage. I used filtered water and made sure it wasnāt cold. I canāt believe it died though. I feel like it rejected the adoption. It would rather die than set fin in our house.
Sorry that happened to you. It happens.
Poor fishy.

Iām evil. Iām still laughing.
Iām glad I could brighten your day. It was a fish, but good lord I didnāt think Iād kill it within the day of having it in our possession.
I got a great hamster story, too. Do you want it?

If it requires a wake and a eulogy then maybe not.

Um, no itās more like a twisted story. Thereās a bit of incest, escaping from containers, babies, just a lot of things cool things. But if you arenāt interested, thatās fine, too.

What type of rodent, there are a lot of different kinds? (In biology a rodent is a member of the Order Rodentia, Iām a bit of a biology nerd, that is what I was in University for).
I had hamsters when I was younger. A male and a female, they had babies, but the father killed some of the babies and started eating them so we had to put him in a separate cage. They are cool pets but they donāt provide affection and attention like a dog would for example.
Canada (my country) has a rodent as a national emblem. The beaver!

Iām too afraid to have a snake. I have the irrational fear it will get out and either eat or constrict my cat.
Well, to help you feel better, my corn snake has a tiny head! Super small! Heās long (5ā5"), but his head is just large enough to consume adult frozen-thawed mice. He wouldnāt be able to harm a cat, even a kitten.
Also, heās a sweetheart. Super nice snake.
A hamster soap opera? Lay it on me!!
I heard corn snakes are good ābeginnerā snakes.
So one day I was homeschooling my boys and decided for science lessons we would buy a hamster. Got it from the store. Just thought it was fat. Turned out it was pregnant. Pet stores are not allowed to sell pregnant hamsters. They would not take her back though. Ended up with six hamster babies. One was a runt that I nursed with kitten replacement for three days because the mother rejected it. It died.
I tried to separate the babies after they were weaned. It was not soon enough. The mother mated with one of her sons. The mother hamster then had five more hamsters. I had to buy four new cages to separate them all. They kept breaking out of their cages. Every morning I would wake up to ten hamsters running through the house. We had one cat at the time, so he would help round them up for me but he would not kill them. Finally I was fed up with them all and took them back to the store and said, take these. And donāt give them to snakes.
We kept the mother hamster though, and she died two years later.
I love hamsters, but I will never buy another one again.
Oh. My. God. That is crazy!! I can totally picture all the hamsters and coming downstairs to find them all over the place. What I canāt believe is that your kitty didnāt kill themā¦
