I thought some people were mocking me

Yesterday when I was at college, I thought some of my colleagues were laughing at me. I talked to them on Facebook later and I discovered they weren’t. Is it paranoia or I have a so low self-esteem that I think that when someone laughs, it’s about me?

It is called paranoia,
paranoia means taking things that happen and connecting them with yourself.
If you were at college it means you are doing well !

Thank you, @Erez_Shmerling ^^. I’m facing college and I’m evolving, but sometimes I don’t know if I’m having paranoia (I can’t remember exactly how I was before my outbreak).

Think it’s anxiety man

Something similar happened to me in 2015. The first day of school I thought everyone was staring at me and laughing at me amongst themselves. It is all paranoia. I thought they were mocking my shoes.

I see. Maybe it’s the Spotlight Effect. I’m reading about it.

Ya I think it’s got to do with anxiety and low self esteem. I also seem to get anxious and worry alot when I’m in a similar situation.

It could be low level paranoid thoughts or social anxiety. There isn’t a clear seperation between the two.

When a colleague of mine laughed I got blushed. I think it’s related to social anxiety. I’m taking clomipramine. Maybe I have to change meds (fluoxetine maybe) because I feel clomipramine has no effect for my intrusive thoughts (I’m taking clomipramine for intrusive thoughts and depression).

@brugluiz I think that for intrusive thoughts, you may try antipsychotics.

Yeah, my pdoc said that antipsychotics work for intrusive thoughts, but maybe he’ll mix aripiprazole with a low dose of haloperidol.

Hi @brugluiz Most people do not laugh at others anymore intentionally. When I am not doing well, I have the same thoughts but I managed to get better.

Just think of it this way, no one cares to make fun of you. What is the purpose? And if they do, it is their problem. Intelligent people do not mock others so just ignore it and I wish you success in your studies.

It has nothing to do with self esteem, we are ill so we always have a wrong perception.

Thank you, @mermaid1  !

I understand that people don’t want to mock me and, if they do, it’s their problem. If someone mocks me, I’ll tell her/him that I don’t like it. If the person insists mocking me, I’ll try to talk to my professor (but I don’t think it’s the case).

Congratulations on starting back to college. What are you studying? Don’t give a second thought to the other people they’re all too busy with their own lives to be worried about yours.

I think this way sometimes I and it just may be a combo of anxiety and paranoia. I sometimes think people are talking negatively about me or thinking negative thoughts about me. especially my partner and her parents. I think they talk about me behind my back and they say they don’t but who knows. sorry i’m not helping much.

It’s Graphic Design. I like creating motion graphics pieces (there are some of them on my portfolio: behance.net/brugluiz). I want to work with digital marketing.

It’s okay, @cbbrown. I’m not quite sure yet if it’s a mix of paranoia and social anxiety. Anyway, I’ll talk to my pdoc about it.
