I ordered the 1mg Risperdal tablets anyway

As many of you know I had my psychiatrist lower my risperidone dose from 4mg to 3mg recently
I told her that the tablets are not easy to cut and divide but for some odd reason she refuses to prescribe me 1mg tablets!
I explained it to her by email and she gave me directions of how I should take my doses that does not include taking 1mg tablets.
And to top it all off her directions made no sense at all!
I decided to contact my pharmacy and told them I need the 1mg tablets anyway.
They will fax my doctor.
This is totally unacceptable and if she refuses to comply I will be moving on to a different pdoc.
I’ve never heard of this before.
She’s making it more difficult for me to take my meds.
Rant over

I agree. It sounds bizarre.

That does sound weird. I hope you get the 1mg pills

Yes, I don’t need to be seeing a weird psychiatrist

Sh** @Wave,you literally done what I said two days ago.
Now you want to ditch psychiatrist …

Rethink buddy,maybe it’s just meds.
Did you start 3mg?

How are you in general?

Don’t cancel endocrinologist,it can be useful for many reasons,I mean you can tell what things bother you considering general health.

Hope you are fine…

Yes I started the lower dose about a week ago @zoa
I’m doing ok except for some irritability
But that’s to be expected when changing doses.
I probably won’t be ditching my pdoc so soon @zoa
But I still don’t understand what is so difficult about prescribing the appropriate antipsychotic dose?
There are other things I’m noticing about her that I don’t like but yeah maybe the lower dose is making me more sensitive
Hopefully it’s temporary

Try 0.5 mg more,if you feel agitated.
I think it’s to fast transition, but if you can control it it’s ok…

I’ll be fine buddy
Thanks for your concern

Sometimes insurance will only cover a particular dose of a med, like when i was on latuda it only paid for 80mg tablets that i had to cut. But it really does sound kinda weird. I wouldn’t change pdocs for this, tho, altho i feel your frustration with her right now.

Yes, I think that the lower dose is making me hyper sensitive @WhiteRaven
I haven’t thought about the insurance

I won’t change pdocs over this

Thanks

I think if she wants you on 3 mg, she should prescribe you the 1 mg tablets. She’s giving you grief for no good reason.

Does having the 1 mg tablets make it easier for you to adjust your dosage on your own?

Years ago my psych nurse practitioner refused to make such an adjustment because she knew I was experimenting with lower doses on my own.

One time I managed to cut my finger on the little blade.in the pill cutter the pharmacy gave me. I requested pill dosages from my dr that didnt require cutting after that. My dr complied with my request.

Also, pill cutting is not ideal because you cant always cut the pill exactly in half. Furthermore, the active med may not be uniformly distributed.throughout the pill so there is no guarantee that taking half a pill will give you half the dose.

Thanks guys
I had a really difficult time cutting my pills in half today
You are right @Moonbeam
Sometimes I’m taking less than 1mg because of the inaccuracy involved

This is so frustrating!

I changed my mind
I’ve decided to cancel my pharmacy request for 1mg tablets.
I really don’t want to contradict my doctor and step on her toes.

I’ll just have to get used to cutting my tablets.

when i have to cut pills i like to use a razor blade (i think thats what its called. those trapazoid shaped blades u get in a multipack in the tools section) instead of a pill cutter. its easier for me to get it in half and it works better. that might work for u if u wanna try it.

Yeah thanks
I plan to experiment around with how I cut my pills.

I just used a box cutter and it worked great!
I don’t know if that’s what you meant?
