I Like Old Stuff

Old books…coins…pictures…movies…music…cars…my old baseball glove.

I enjoyed VCR’s…cassette tapes…the Walkman…hand-held video games…etc.

I haven’t adapted very well to new technology. My desktop computer is about as far as I go. I’ve never owned a cellphone or texted a message.

Do you like older stuff as well? If so, what do you still like, or miss these days?

Okay so there’s this anime film named Akira, and if you buy it on DVD they have an English dub. However this is not the original English dub. The only way to get the original English dub, which I consider to be highly superior, is to locate an American VHS copy. I acquired one 18 years ago by renting it from Blockbuster, telling them I lost it, and then paying the full price and keeping it. I’ve since lost it in a move, and would love to reacquire it somehow, but I’m sure it’s gonna cost me like 1 or 2 hundred bucks.

Also my favorite horror film of all time, Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, had its death scenes censored by the MPAA in America. The only way to get them in their full format is to track down a British VHS copy. This is on my list of collectibles if I ever come into money.

I used to enjoy going out to the video store to rent a movie…it was an outing and you got to hold all of the boxes and read a bit about each film…and go home with some popcorn or snacks.

Yeah I miss the experience of renting videos and buying popcorn/candy at the checkout also.

It was also a really fun place to work at as a teen. We got 5 free rentals a week as employees.

For sure, I bet that would have been a great job for a teenager…a video store clerk.

I love the antiques there is something about old stuff … it takes me back a few years or at least connects me to my family to the times I wasnt born … my grandmorher gave me some jewellery she wore when 30 or so… my grandad gave them to her and it sort of makes me feel connected somehow to both of them… she’s 98 now and it only makes me imagine where she was at around 60 years ago when I wasn’t even there… love old stuff … do you have any disney vhs tapes apparently they are catching a fortune right now i was reading yesterday

I’ve got some old VHS tapes in storage somewhere…perhaps some old Disney as well. I’d have to check.

Well, the young ones won’t go out with me.

Yes I think it sold for thousands

Heck! I even like older women better as well…they have lived a lot and are more comfortable with themselves.

After a certain age, you just become who you truly are, I figure.

Clothes too…I love my old Wrangler jean jacket. It’s probably 25 years old and naturally faded.

I loved my Atari 2600. The furthest I went with gaming consoles was Nintendo 64.

I still buy CDs rather than stream. I threw away my cassettes a long time ago.

I still have my Star Wars 1977 R2-D2 from when I was 11 years old.

I gave it to my nephew as I’m his Godfather…it’s probably worth a couple of grand, I’m assuming.

I saw Akira in first print in the cinema. Amazing for it’s time. Manga wasn’t really big back then and it was totally underground.

Oh I would have loved to see it on a big theater screen
