My pdoc reduced my only antipsychotic zyprexa to a mere 5 mg and I was doing better for about two months and then the familiar feeling and some thought disturbance returned with a big punch. So I am returning to 10 mg zyprexa. It’s still only half the maximum dose, or what was originally the maximum when it was introduced in 1996. The lack of sleep was a factor but it is all tied together.
I still don’t know why science can’t invent a good sleeping pill!
I’m sorry you weren’t able to sleep. I had the same problem the last 6 weeks because I quit Ziprasidone 160 mgs( The meds that had caused my insomnia for 10 years) and lowered with 250 Seroquel. I’m regaining control over my sleep slowly now that I have passed the 6 weeks border line of quitting Ziprasidone. My 400 mg Clopixol depot I take every other week together with my 300 mgs Seroquel pill does wonders for my positives and negatives and put me to sleep.
I had to go back on Clozapine cuz the Cogentin I was taking with the Prolixen old-school antipsychotic gave me pancreatitis. I hate restarting the stupid weekly blood tests but, man, I’m able to sleep really well on it!
And that’s the most important part of it that you sleep well. I’ve still got some sleep issues after quitting Ziprasidone cold turkey 7 weeks ago. But my sleep do improve now that there is a lot less Ziprasidone in my blood stream.
10mg was my minimum dose too. I went down to 5mg and lost a bit of weight but I had some positive symptoms. Ended up changing to Abilify which was a disaster.
