I won’t pursue dx … just thought it would be useful to know though
My partner is autistic. He didn’t get any help. Just a diagnosis. Which helped him get PIP I suppose.
Another thing which is difficult to get a dx for as an adult, and help for it, is dyspraxia. Dyspraxia being something that a lot on the spectrum have
If you go private I don’t think the NHS or benefits people will accept it was what I was told. You’d have to check before you pay
I guess I just want to know regardless of benefits to help myself but I dont think it will help if I go against psychologist advise
The situation in the USA when those on the spectrum become adults .
This is a really good article, @anon80629714
It makes me think I have aspergers.
Asperger’s isn’t dxd anymore it’s all ASD now
Posted before but reposting for this thread.
In reality people who get diagnosed at adulthood don’t really need the diagnosis in most cases (female or male, doesn’t matter)
Why not?
I want help if ive got a diagnosis surely they can help me
They have only offered occupational therapy n such to me despite me being dxd at age 5
Hopefully I will get some help in the UK, its worth a try I believe…
Sorry ,but that is ignorant bunkum. It’s something that gets spouted by some of those lucky enough to be very young when it became more than a dx for the severely impaired, or born after that time.
There are a lot who happened to be born in the 50s-70s , decades before Asperger’s became a dx, who are just as much on the spectrum as those who happened to be born at the right time to get an early dx.
I disagree. Most people just want to be special… I didn’t fish for my diagnosis
Also functioning levels can fluctuate, if you had seen me 8 years ago you wouldve thought I was low functioning
I want to understand and learn…i think that’s reasonable.
And yes btw I do feel special
I think it’s good for everyone to feel that way if they want… Lol
sure but please do not call it Aspergers since such dx doesnt exist anymore
OK. What does ASD stand for?
autism spectrum disorder.
There’s nothing ‘special’ I can assure you in being bullied because you’re different and not getting proper help to live as good a life as possible. In struggling for years and years, and sometimes finding life so hard that suicide has seemed like a good choice.
