I complain too much :(

I argued with my brother about that and now he doesn’t talk to me. Today a friend told me I whine too much. My mom said the same…
Ok, I agree…But it hurts…Why is that? I don’t like being critiqued about my character. I guess that’s another fault. :frowning:

About complaining - the squeaky wheel gets the grease. But you’ve got to learn how to complain effectively.

What do you mean, chordy?

This is really petty.

And I wrong or right?

I mean your feelings aren’t known unless you say something. If you don’t say anything people won’t think there’s anything wrong.

well…in my country we say “if there is nothing to talk about then everything is ok with your life”
I feel bad if I don’t express my feelings…But I guess I put people down if I do…

You’re in a tight spot if you want people to change because chances are they don’t want to change. Well, you could always threaten them. lol.

I get trapped in negative thought patterns sometimes. When @anon4362788 started this thread, it helped me notice the positive things in my life more, because I was looking for them so I could add to the thread. Maybe joining the thread can help you, too?

If you keep this pattern, you’ll lose friends and people will want to stay away from you.

what kind of family and friends are they can’t tolerate a little bit of complaint? strangers are better than that. maybe bring back hitler.

Often it’s not how much someone complains, it’s how they complain.
I like it when people ask me if I have time and energy to listen to a complaint. I also like it when they end the complaint by asking about me, so it’s not all about them.

And if someone makes the same complaint every time, it can get tiresome.

That being said… I fully understand it hurts to have a flaw pointed out. It’s not fun to have to admit to doing something wrong. Us humans are proud creatures.

I whine on here but keep my mouth shut in real life.

Me too. I control my complaints and generally just talk to my family or therapist when I want to vent. Sometimes I vent with my friends, but it’s not just about venting. It’s also about positive stuff or, as @Pikasaur said, asking about the other person too.

I always ask ppl how they are - most of the time they don’t ask me how I am. I am not very talkative. This is why I am angry when they say I complain a lot - I am a listener

Yesterday I heard a study on the radio that said that people who complain live longer
