its the first job where i have not mentioned something…
my manager knows i have bp the others don’t…
should i even bother…?
Do you think it would be beneficial to tell them? Or tell them when it comes up naturally in conversation.
yeah i might just drop in the fact i am going to a support group this month… casually in a convo
It’s really a tough decision to make. On one hand, people are a lot more informed and open-minded about bipolar disorder nowadays. On the other hand, once it’s out there you can’t untell them. It just depends on whether you want to be that open about your life with these co-workers, i’d say.
I work there 20 hours a week, i just want to be myself around them whether they like it or not… but i can see some people there are a bit ignorant…
Well, you’re gonna deal with ignorant people wherever you go. Maybe if you tell them you will feel more free to be yourself.
I’d like to tell two of them, one of them has a neurological disorder and i guess i just want to tell him i am on a similar boat i find it hard too…
Sounds like a good idea. You will have some common ground.
He fell over one time at work and he was so upset he didn’t know what to say when he came back so he came in with a card and in it it explained he had ataxia and he wasn’t drunk … and he put a link in to the disorder i am not quite going to do that but i can tell them i have it in a convo over tea…
Yes, that might make him feel a little less like a weirdo if he knows you struggle with something, too. Sounds like a compassionate thing to do, @anon80629714.
What’s the point telling them?
Whatever you feels you wanna do
I told management that I had bipolar at the time and things went downhill for me at work.
Be very careful @anon80629714.
I told my manager on the day of the interview but you right colleagues might be another story
I tell people sometimes sometimes i dont. I really dont think of it that much. Its like any other disease. If you had heart disease you could telll them if it cane up in convo if not then you could not. You have a mental disorder. Same thing, just an illness. Brave the stigma and the next generation wont have to
If you want accommodations one day then yes management will have to know but colleagues really don’t have to know.
My opinion is that you are inviting trouble if you let them know.
I told one person that I thought I could trust at work that I had bipolar and she promised me that she wouldn’t tell others.
A couple of days later the entire workplace knew.
And the gossiping began.
I would not tell, that can back fire big time, no one needs to know
personally I would tell workmates that I have sz…and then id tell them of difficulties im having with negative symptoms,
No one needs to know unless your illness causes your work to suffer.
Personally I wouldn’t, do not think telling that or people knowing that is good for work/ or work relationships.
