I put a feeder out on the front porch about a week ago… their numbers have gone from 2 females…to about 10 females and 2 males… they drink all their gogo juice in 2 days now… and they fight worse than cats… but their still pretty awesome… i also put seed out in the back the cardinals have taken the seed horde over… equally dicks to each other…lol
I also almost caught a fledgling hawk… he jumped under a fence and just stared at me… was a smaller black/ white hawk… all ive ever seen here is red tails…
The bird sanctuary I go to has a fledgling red tailed I think. He’s adorable. I see humming birds occasionally. They really like my moms butterfly bushes.
We have a hummingbird feeder on our front porch. It’s ruled by one Anna’s Hummingbird male (they’re such jerks!) He wastes so much energy chasing every other hummingbird away, but he doesn’t know that. I played a recording of an Anna’s call and when he heard it he came right up to me to see who the intruder was…so gutsy!
This is the 35th summer I have been feeding the hummingbirds here. I started small with just one little feeder. I got up to 21 48oz and was going through 10lbs of sugar a day. So I cut back on my feeder to just 11 of them. It work for a few years. But this year during the peak of the hummingbirds, I was going through 9lbs of sugar a day.
