How to keep from being discouraged in relapse?

I realize a relapse it has happened and it’s starting to wear me down, it’s draining me, trying to roll with the punches but feel I may soon be knocked out for good. I don’t have friends, my wife doesn’t know how to help other than hey she’s still with me, she knows because it’s happened before, she’s my better half, even the counselor forgot last week what a joke but it’s getting worse, only here can this be addressed

Checklist:

  1. Get a copy of these books, read them and have your family read them, as well. (Torrey can be a bit totalistic and unwilling to see exceptions to his “rules” at times, but most of his book is really worth the effort to plough through.)

  2. Get properly diagnosed by a board-certified psychopharmacologist who specializes in the psychotic disorders. One can find them at…
    http://doctor.webmd.com/find-a-doctor/specialty/psychiatry and https://psychiatrists.psychologytoday.com/rms/
    .
  3. Work with that “psychiatrist” (or “p-doc”) to develop a medication formula that stabilizes their symptoms sufficiently so that they can tackle the psychotherapy that will disentangle their thinking.
    .
  4. Psychotherapies for that currently include…
    DBT – http://behavioraltech.org/resources/whatisdbt.cfm
    MBSR – http://www.mindfullivingprograms.com/whatMBSR.php
    MBCT - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22340145
    ACT – https://contextualscience.org/act
    Vipassana – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vipassanā
    .
  5. the even newer somatic psychotherapies like…

    SEPT – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somatic_Experiencing

    .
  6. or standard CBTs, like…

    Learned Optimism – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learned_optimism

    .
  7. Get two or more of those “down,” and one can use the skills therefrom in this way to combat delusional thinking and emotional reactivity very quickly: 10 StEP – http://pairadocks.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-10-steps-of-emotion-processing.html
    .
  8. If you/she/he needs a professional intervention to get through treatment resistance, I would use those search tools in item 2 above. Look for clinics that include intervention and treatment resistance services.
    .
  9. If you or your sz patient suddenly becomes manic: http://www.currentpsychiatry.com/specialty-focus/bipolar-disorders/article/what-to-do-when-your-depressed-patient-develops-mania/f3218a38f6603114ff2f9d9bfc21acfb.html?
    .
  10. Look into the RAISE Project at https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=raise%20program%20schizophrenia.
    .
  11. Look for mental illness clubhouses in your area (which can be hugely helpful… but may also pose risks). Dig through the many articles at https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=mental%20illness%20clubhouse%20model to locate and investigate them.

Go to the Hospital if you feel you’re really sliding. Don’t wait too long. Your road to recovery will be that much harder and longer if you do.

I have those books but they are in storage when we moved

Man I just can’t go, it’s a nightmare, we would lose our apartment, when they stopped the disability, they stopped the insurance and a va hospital is probably much worse, nights worse than the days, I am isolated

Do you have access to a Crisis Hotline whereby you could discuss your situation with a trained professional? That might be the way to go in the interim?

Yeah I will find it again and call, thanx, reality has been unzipped

I just wanted to say i’m sorry you are going through this and I hope you get help. I too have slipped backwards before but I always remember my first hospitalization. my first one I didn’t have insurance, no money and I didn’t have a steady place to live. But the mental health hospital took me in anyway. after the hospitalization they charged me like four thousand dollars which I was able to get back pay with my Medicaid. is that an option for you?

Hey yeah thanx for the support, called the crisis line and got a machine and was instructed to hang up, it’s okay tho, I appeased them and gave them what they wanted so they are leaving me alone, I always listen to music, I have to have headphones all the time but they are in the music again and telling me things, this happened before, I know, this site is awesome but I gotta drop off the radar for awhile…thanx for it has helped to know, never been able to do even this before
