How to get out of the house?

It might sound trivial, but there’s a old saying that stepping through the door to get outside is half the job.

Anyone got any good techniques or tricks to get out of the house?

Hmmm no tips that you don’t already know.

In Japan they have a escort bureau for friends(or company). Like you can rent a friend for a period of time. It might sound silly, but I think it’s actually a good idea. If that was a option I could rent someone to come get me out of the house, maybe for 1 hour just to get me started.

Strange. Maybe you should take up photography.
It’s individual.

Denial. Tell yourself the world is a safe place and everybody’s nice and that no ones going to bother you. That will get you out your door and to your car and halfway down the block before reality hits you and you see the world is a cesspool. But hey, you’re already outside and just make the best of it and enjoy the day. And most likely, some good things are bound to happen to you on a typical day outside.

I think you are onto something. The make believe part, if you actually can make believe something that isn’t so, like that you have a appointment to meet someone in town that would do it. If I was a kid it would be easy. Maybe I need to be less serious and a little more playful.

I’m kind of flirting with the idea to pay some teenager(because they are the only ones who would bother for a small amount of money) to get me out of the house. Like just walk with me for a few minutes to get me started. It would kind of be like having a social accountability partner. But they might think I’m some kind of creep, and don’t want to come off like that.

Maybe I’ll just try the make believe stuff. That ought to be peanuts for someone diagnosed with psychosis, right?

What is stopping you from going out of the house?

Old habit I think. It’s not like I never go out. Sometimes I go for walks and if I have something that really needs to get done I go, I just suck at going out when I don’t have a obvious plan. Like I never go to town unless I have something obvious I need to do…etcetera. I have always been this way…so it’s just a habit I need to break. I had some periods when I was good at going to a cafe or diner many times a week…but recently I have been really crappy at getting out.

I don’t go out the house much either at the moment, I’m not in the mood to do physical activity at my current weight.

I just go out for grocery shopping.

It’s sort of a nuisance.

I listen to a recording I made of interview questions!

I hope you find a way to get out the house more.

But yea, it might help to have somewhere like a destination to go to.

You bring this up like a sudden revelation. We’re all coming out of pandemic.

That is true, hadn’t had much of a choice lately. Except the last couple of months stuff has been open where I live. Also I didn’t do much stuff before the pandemic.

It’s kind of strange because I enjoy going out to a cafe or a diner, have a bite and do my crossword or whatnot. Maybe it’s because I’m not feeling well mentally lately…but that is the evil circle…I stay at home because I don’t feel well mentally…and I’m not well mentally because I stay too much at home…

Maybe I need to be hard with myself…like eat breakfast and have the morning routine, and then get out of the house for a while. Maybe I just need to make it a habit and it will resolve itself.

Yeah, I guess that would certainly do the trick! :slightly_smiling_face:

I still struggle with leaving the house except Dr appts and groceries
It used to be much worse, I would stand in front of the mirror and say stuff like “come on you p*ssy you can do this” and it would take me 10 min of amping myself up to walk 5 min to 7/11 to get a drink or cigs.
This illness is torturous
Now I can just walk out the door without peering through the blinds, but the effort it takes to even check the mailbox is high.
I don’t think renting a friend is a bad idea, modern problems require modern solutions.
I would rent a super confident friend and maybe I could absorb some confidence lol.

It helps to have hobbies that get you outdoors. My daughter’s latest thing is that she bought a paddle board to tool around local lakes and rivers. I bought an inflatable kayak so I could join her. Should be fun. I also love to go out for walks and to take photos.
