How to convince a doctor to treat adhd?

Hello everyone on the forum.
This is my first time here. I do not know if I chose a good category. Here’s my problem: I’m diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, I’m healing and everything is ok. But I had constant problems and recently my therapist diagnosed me with adhd. Suddenly everything made sense. Symptoms that I thought were from psychosis and side effects of the drugs were symptoms of adhd. Now I have to go to my psychiatrist and convince him for pharmacological treatment. How to do it, however? The problem is that in my country I have not met with people being treated for schizophrenia and adhd at the same time (I am from the EU). In addition, I am addicted to alcohol, marijuana and amphetamine. As you can see, I have a lot of contraindications to this type of treatment. What should I say to my doctor to start treatment?
If the doctor somehow agreed what you recommend? Ritalin or Vyvanse (Adderall is illegal in my country).

Thanks to everyone for help.
Greetings.

I think before real therapy can begin, you need to work at being able to get rid of your addictions.
The drugs you take, marihuana and amphetamines, they may seem to be working, but long-term they’re just making things worse.
And they might effect medicines, so you won’t get proper treatment even if the doctor does prescribe you medicines.

Do you take all these drugs all the time. Combine them? How do you do them. Do you take the amphetamine for your adhd already as a way of self medicating?? Would like to hear more.

I guess amphetamine and alcohol is a speedball which is dangerous. And then throwing pot in the mix with amphetamines can really cause psychosis.

Stay away from ritalin and vyvanse. You are schizophrenic. You dont get to take them.

Thanks to everyone for a quick response.
We misunderstood. I have been taking drugs and drinking alcohol, but since I have been treated for schizophrenia (2 years) I am clean and I drank only 6 times. I mean, I’m addicted, not that I’m currently taking anything.

Thanks again for the answer, you are wonderful.

I wouldn’t put any significance in a diagnosis from a therapist. They aren’t able to diagnose and really shouldnt be speaking in those terms

Ritalin worked good for me. I don’t have a sz diagnoses but I have a psychosis NOS and ADHD diagnoses. Stimulants don’t make me manic or psychotic. Some users on here will say

‘nO NO yOU caN’t TaKE tHat if you’re SZ!!! nEvER NOT ONCE or YoU’Ll go CrAZY!! I kNoW everyThing blah blah…’

But like… they clearly don’t understand the concept of how stimulants to someone with actual ADHD will calm the person down, not make them manic.

People bash stimulants on here all the time. It’s frusterating, but get used to people straight up telling you that you can never take a certain type of medication just because they can’t handle it.

Anyways. Ritalin helped me with my motivation, and it even helped me focus on my hobbies, which is almost impossible for me because depression.

I never knew about this. is it a law? Why did my doctor give me a perscription. He must know nothing about medicine. I mean, what an idiot. Must have not paid attention in medical school.

Oh, by the way! How many years did you go to medical school for? More then my doctor I assume, since you sound so sure of yourself.

Sorry doc! Not taking my meds anymore, sunlion says I’m not allowed.

That’s nice. I can feel the burn.

Sorry for the attitude. I was having a rough morning. :flushed:

I take concerta along with clozapine, lithium and lamotrigine. I haven’t had any problems with it. Concerta just makes me a little calmer and more awake and clear minded.

@valiumprincess What dose of neuroleptic are you on and which one?

@FatMama How much clozapine you take?

I take 450mg clozapine

I don’t have ADHD but they thought i had that as a kid. Turns out i have Aspergers…maybe. I want to try a stimulant but they won’t let me. I guess it’s the schizophrenia…

I guess they all overlap. I cannot focus like I used to. I used to focus for a few hours a day at least with one monster. I was never a coffee drinker.

Meds have messed with me in many ways.

Vraylar has been easier on my mind and mood than the other meds.

I don’t think I have bipolar. Maybe just sza…
