How long have you had SZ? Are you depressed?

I’ve had SZ for 12 years now (since diagnosis). I remember doing better in the past but these days I just have absolutely no motivation and just want to sleep. It’s a really miserable feeling because I have a lot of things going for me. How about you?

I was diagnosed 10 years ago. I was worse but now I’m stable. 4.5 years since my last hospitalisation. I’m on abilify and it has an antidepressant effect.

My motivation is low but it’s there somewhere. It’s not non-existent.

over 20 years medicated, but maybe longer with untreated symptoms.

I’m quitting drinking, and take an anti depressant, so lately no depression,
just get down at times about things out of my control.

Yeah I pretty much quit drinking too… have a few beers occasionally but I don’t really miss it.

I don’t think drinking was making me depressed though.

My boring ass life is.

About 8 years since diagnodis of sz. Ultimately diagnosed with sza and PTSD 6 years ago.

39 years. I’m just plugging along working part time as a janitor, taking online college courses and living on my own. In case you’re wondering, I am a great cook and I eat pretty well. Maybe you’re not wondering, lol.

Sure, I get depressed but it’s not too severe. I get cheered up easily.

I’ve had music hallucination all my life, but initial episode, huge and florid, 27 years ago (my math is poor). Now, not depressed at all, but rather selectively unmotivated (ha-ha). Need to work on housecleaning, cooking, hygiene.

I’m not always depressed. I feel good after I exercise vigorously. I just went to the gym for an hour and sweated it out. Depression comes and goes but there are more conditions for it to arise with schizophrenia.

I guess i’ve probably had schizophrenia for a couple of years now, but formal diagnosis didn’t come until this year (they weren’t sure if i had Psychotic Depression or Schizophrenia but now they’ve finally settled). I certainly do became depressed, very severely. I’ve ended up in hospital quite a few times because i lose all motivation to eat, drink, shower or even get out of bed. Compounded by lack of motivation from the negative symptoms of schizophrenia as well. I take Effexor 225 mg for my depressive symptoms, and it seems to work quite well as i haven’t had a major depressive episode if over a year now. I still have my off days but they tend to be more due to the Schizophrenia than depression. My symptoms of schizophrenia are still not adequately controlled even on 160 mg Ziprasidone. Usually i have to take extra Olanzapine to get any relief. But that’ll change soon, switching to Clozapine.

Hi Sezbot. I have a friend who has psychotic depression. It’s really tough, and he is even less functioning than me.

I wish you well and hope you find the right combination of meds and other therapies to keep your life moving forwards.

I was diagnosed sz 34 years ago.

I don’t think I have clinical depression, just the normal ups and downs of life.

I have had schizophrenia for 20 years.

I had depression with apathy and hopelessness and feeling unloved and neglected and unwanted and abandoned as a child.

I am not depressed now.

I had voices a few years but they went away.
Now it’s mainly delusions a bit of paranoia but not much I don’t think .
And side effects from the tablets.

Had it for 4 years now. Since I was 23. Feels like so long ago.

got sz in 2002…

also suffer from flatmood

9 years…it’s gotten better with time.

I’ve been having some mild non-psychotic issues since I was abused as a kid. Severe PTSD started 7.5 years ago, first fullblown psychosis 6.5 years ago, diagnosis of schizophrenia about… don’t know… 3-4 years ago. Since a year this diagnosis was cleared and I officially have PTSD + brief psychotic disorder. I think after all those years “brief” is a very positive way to put it. But oh well. Next week they’ll start a test to see what I really have. I wonder… they’ve spoken about 10,11,12 different disorders at different times…so it’s a big surprise what comes out of it.

I’m not currently depressed, but I have my moments and episodes. Depression and psychosis always go hand in hand for me, whenever I’m psychotic, I’m also depressed.
