I was wondering how long it takes for Aripiprazole to start working? I started it just over a week ago and still waiting for improvements. I’m on 10mg a day at the moment and it is being reviewed after a month on it.
It’s my first experience with this so I am finding it very scary and confusing.
Thank you for reading.
It reaches steady state in your system after about 2 weeks. Then it can take up to three months for you to get an idea of how well it’s working for you.
Have you any tips on how to cope whilst I wait for it to work? I’m on diazepam to keep me calm. I have been told I have to cope at home but I’m not managing
I have been taking it in the evening, would that explain why I’m struggling to sleep even with zopiclone and diazepam? I will take it in the morning I was just told take it once a day. Thinks have got worse but I don’t want to waste the Drs time.
I take Abilify in the morning and the evening. Abilify makes me calm. Maybe it is because of the high dose? Is it sedating in higher doses? But I take it morning and evening because I have a history of missing doses. Very often the morning dose. I believe I have taken it and see in the evening that I missed it.
I am on 25mg. I take 10mg in the morning and 15mg at night. I was on other aps before Abilify so I cannot really tell you how long it takes to work. I started off on 15mg per day but had a relapse. At one stage I went up to 30mg a day but that really knocked me out. 25mg Works ok for me atm
It usually takes about 5 days for your body to get adjusted, and generally about 7 days to tell if it will work for you. If you still notice no effects, try a higher dose. If that doesn’t work, try something that hits a different neurotransmitter. I’ve been on it for 2 weeks now myself. It made me exhausted beyond belief the first 2 days, but after that, it’s only gotten better for me. Hope it works for you too!
I’m currently now on Abilify for 2 and half months and I am getting the full benefit from it after what seemed to be long wait, kind of how you may be feeling now. Depending on the person there is some crappy steps you have to go through in order for you to be adjusted. For me, that didn’t last long but I was asking myself why it’s getting worse instead of better (for the first four weeks). Meds have really helped. I can say that now after having the full benefit. So if you are feeling on the fence about it then I hope you can find confidence in this.
I can tell you very precisely, abilify has a half-life of 75 hrs. Meds reach stable serum concentration after 5 half lives. So multiply 75*5=375hrs, 375hrs/24= 15 days and 15hrs. There you go, a two weeks and a day and a half.
