My brother, who got diagnosed with sz around this time last year, finally got on meds recently. However the olanzapine he got didn’t help him enough immediately and apparently he got a doctor to prescribe him adderall, which he was addicted to as a teenager. I have no control over this because he’s living with his grandparents and they’re controlling everything. I think the adderall is a bad thing… does anybody here have any info about how those type of stimulants affect schizophrenics?
Badly. I was given Adderall by the Dr and it sent me into straight psychosis.
They usually will put you on a non stimulant. I was offered one while on sz meds but I refused.

Any kind of stimulant can be very bad for people suffering from psychosis or a mood disorder (bipolar)
My nephew who was recently taken of his adhd medication is now doing a lot better

I took Adrafinil, which is a stimulant, before I was on medication and psychotic. It made my psychosis worse. So, I imagine Adderall would be bad for Sz too. I can only speak for Sz since that’s what I have.

I have to be careful with stimulants. Will have anxiety and panic attacks with some.

Thanks for all the responses, that’s the feeling I’m getting from it. I think he just wants a drug that changes his mood… he has a very addiction prone personality. I’ll let my grandma know about it but don’t want to be too pushy because I’m not the one taking care of him or living with him.
He claims he wants it for focus, but focus was never a problem for me with sz. If anything I was too focused on the wrong things (like delusions).
I used take it. My doctor told me to think of it as poison for me. Makes me lose my mind.
