Because i can think of few movies where the schizophrenic character isn’t the antagonist or just the crazy person who bugs the protagonist at some point. I think we’re extremely misrepresented. Thoughts?
yeah we are, they talk a lot about depression and dementia, but they totally ignore schizophrenia and Bi-polar, kinda make it looks like those are your own fault. Plus cases of schizophrenia in criminal matters are brought in on the news even though more violent crimes are done by people without mental illness.
The only thing I get annoyed by in the media is when they confuse schizophrenia with multiple personality disorder.
In the Batman universe schizophrenics are generally portrayed as the guys who are more prone to commit crimes. Harley Quinn, for example, is a schizophrenic.
We barely see schizophrenics as the good guys.
How we can change that? Well, I think there should be some campaign that defend us. It’s very sad the fact that we have to limit our expression because people may be affraid of us.
Youd never see a celebrity spokesperson raising awareness to our disease. Not very glamorous.
There was high end politician here that did thought that was nice
Not fair I got d.I.d symptoms plus sz…I’m the loneliest sz with d.I.d…I get no respect…no respect…
How are things going for you now on the new meds? Do you have any more ‘missing time’? @flameoftherhine
When it comes to movies I feel it’s generally in a negative light, unfortunately.
Maybe someday they’ll make a movie out of books like the Quiet Room (which is a woman who had sz and her first hand account of her experience). Or make a movie out of Elleyn Sach’s memoir.
Yea still missing time mostly at night…but the meds are ok I’ve actually been outside 3 days INA row in the sun walking…thanks for asking …
I’m gonna read that asap
I’ve been in the situation of missing time years ago. It frightened me.
Awesome The Quiet Room is a great read.
I don’t know if you enjoy psychology at all, but I also recommend Memories, Dreams, Reflections by Carl Jung. All of Jung’s work has really helped me through some difficult stuff.
I sometimes get overwhelmed by the big pictures hallucinations paint on the thoughts of my mind. Even if I were a certified doctor or psychiatrist I would need medicine and counseling for this. That why I don’t really consider most of my doctors as the (know all end all source). In fact I’ve become very angry with alot of my doctors at the VA, for denying me treatment since 2015 for my manic depression. They’ve told me they would since 2015, and I’m still waiting to get the treatment.
It’s not a system I really want to be in right now because nothing is getting done. There are zero results.
SOrry to sidetrack the topic, I’m just frustrated. That doesn’t mean I’ll over react or try to put someone in their place. I’m logical, loving, and just like anyone else with a few extra parts of me. I don’t care about the media they’re all glamour and ignorance.
imo most people don’t even understand the word '‘schizophrenic’[
Or they use it as an all encompassing term like all of us are the same or something. I hate when they do that too.
I love Jung! I haven’t read that one yet tho! I’ll definitely check it out. Thank you
That’s f*cked up! I’ve had so many terrible doctors. I finally (after years) have a great care team and I’m super lucky. It makes a huge difference in treatment to have people who know what they’re doing AND care.
You welcome I’m a big fan of Jung too. The book I recommended is classified as an autobiography, but it’s really more a good survey of his theories on everything.
I found my copy on amazon at a really good price.
