How do you cope or remove unwanted repetitive thoughts?

External noise.

TV, music etc.

As long as there is some external noise, my negative thoughts cease to exist.

Hope this helps.

There is a person with a mental health guide that can help you look into further treatments

Dr. Alok Kanojia

I’ve looked at their work, they’re on twitch as “healthygamergg”.

They’re not replacements, nor meant as therapies or medical treatment, but they can point you to certain portions where you might want to consult on with doctors for specific issues.

With some specifics, on how to try to cope given some well tested techniques.

It’s clearly just a user friendly tutorial on how to find specific therapeutic treatments, along with some low entry techniques to get you by.

He’s packaged that along with his personal spiritualism.

That’s genuinely what some of it is, not really proselytizing. More like a historical context for how the people in his culture viewed these terms in their context…its like a language that helps describe a texture of mental practice on how to get into certain mental states. Like feeling tranquil without actually being anxious to become calm when you’re restless.

This can be done by certain practices, one of them is a dissociative practice where you meditate about sensations on your body, like the flow of breath. This distraction towards your body, can mentally displace you from your own sense of mental panic.

One of the topics he touched on, was what you’re talking about.

It’s important to acknowledge when you feel like you’re cycling mentally in a rut. There’s a sort of relief that comes from accepting your feelings. Noticing when you start getting into ruts and circling around certain thoughts.

There’s a little more, but without reviewing it I can’t give the specifics. It’s a decent guide, and I think given our situations with mental illness here…it’s a useful product.

Sometimes we don’t know what we’re struggling with is even called, and having the breadth of material covered can help broaden your vocabulary, so you can speak about things in greater depth.

Yes, @Zoe that’s kind of my strategy, if i have these recurrent, repetitive thoughts, i kind of let them pass me without “answering” them, let them be instead of struggling with them. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Wish you luck, such thoughts can be a nuisance.

Maybe take the Mickey out of these thoughts and make a song or poetry out of it.

By keeping busy to distract myself. Also when I get intrusive thoughts I remind myself that my thoughts are only my thoughts and I can’t help what comes into my head.

Self expression. Stop thinking so much and your thoughts won’t have power over you. Get up, do something, talk to someone or sing or something, make art, etc. laying around in bed or whatever thinking is the root of repetitive thoughts.

Self expression is the opposite of self reflection (thinking) . Self reflection is good but when you engage in it too much it can ruin your mind.

My intrusive thoughts are usually weaker when I’m happy …busy and not ruminating. Also… learning to be ok with your self helps. I have many personal struggles and they are not normal… Self compassion helps too but that doesn’t always stop the thoughts

Unhealthy ways like punching stuff. I’m working on it.
