how does this work, cbt
CBT founder Aaron T Beck gives a detailed explanation of CBT. Includes a section on CBT as applied to Sz negative symptoms about half way through the video.
There are many workbooks and such that you can use. This is the one my brother uses
Workbooks are awesome. Also recommend keeping a recovery diary. Set goals, keep track of when you’ve hit them (e.g. showering daily or going for walks). Make a note of symptoms that you need to overcome. Try to find strategies to overcome them.
Skip ahead to 45:25 in the Beck CBT video above to see his CBT interpretation of Sz negative symptoms.
Here’s a link to the book that Beck wrote about CBT as applied to Sz.
While there is no doubt that there are people whose negative symptoms stem from defeatist beliefs and a series of failures from the past that keep haunting them, we should not generalize. For instance, in my case this theory does not apply. I was a high achiever who always knew how to put bad experiences behind him and try better next time. I had almost everything going for me - a good career, a healthy lifestyle etc. I was planning however a career shift because of various reasons and I was somewhat suffering from the fact that I had not yet found my significant other. None of these reasons seem to account for the heavy burden of negative symptoms that I started having right after the psychotic break 3 years ago.
In conclusion there is more to it than meets the eye, cbt looks promising for many but is not universal.
I got a big energy boost from daily training with Lumosity. The energy boost would last all day every day that I did the training. It’s a bit like going to the gym though in that it’s difficult to get up the initiative to start, and if you miss a few days training it’s difficult to get back into it, but the energizing effects are huge.
