How did they discover the ''anti psychotic'' med?

and what is it made from ingredients wise?

i went mad because I know 2much yeah yeah

I read that they discovered it by accident. They didn’t have rats brains connected to computers back then.

This is the the first antipsychotic, Thorazine:

“Psychiatrists were reluctant initially, but on January 19, 1952, it was administered (alongside pethidine, pentothal and ECT) to Jacques Lh. a 24-year-old manic patient, who responded dramatically, and was discharged after three weeks having received 855 mg of the drug in total.”

Thank goodness we live in a time where we’re not getting shock therapy and lobotomies for sz/sza.

I couldn’t say as far as ingredients but the first AP was thorazine I believe and it was first designed as an antihistamine, for allergies. It was discovered that when given to psychotic patients it calmed them down considerably and seemed to stop their hallucinations and whatnot. So then they started researching it and marketing it as an antipsychotic.

An early alternative to largactil that’s hardly used now.

I’ve seen shock therapy do a lot of good. This one guy in the mental hospital was badly depressed and barely responsive to his environment. They gave him ECT, and he pulled right out of it. He became very outgoing. He had intellectual aspirations, and one time I read a little of this “book” he was writing, and it was barely intelligible. I wonder if the ECT had anything to do with that.

ECT can cause memory problems idk if it can be permanent though Drs assess benefits vs side effects to decide if ECT should be done.

Chlorpromazine is Solidon here.
I take 300mg daily

I understand most of the meds I take are from petroleum byproducts.

They had a schizophrenic on a Kidney Dialysis who got better while on it… They isolated why he was doing better and narrowed it down to Dopamine filtering… This got the scientists the idea of drugs that suppress dopamine… Thats where the first drugs came from.
