How can I properly socialize my new 9 week Golden if I’m not a social person?
I also suffer from anxiety and agoraphobia.
I plan on taking her for walks but limited in taking her to other places like the doggy park or exposing her to lots of different people and other dogs.
But of course she’ll go to the veterinarian regularly and I plan on inviting certain family members over our house from time to time so she can be exposed to other people.
Hopefully she’ll be ok.
I’ve been excessively worried over my new pup.
We are going to pick her up in a couple more days.
you could take them to obedience training. it is usually in groups lots of puppies and their owners and a few trainers. i dont know how it goes now with the pandemic tho. it will allow them to socialize as well as learn things that will make your and their life easier
if i get another dog i will get so much training like obedience and even k9 type stuff. some high drive breeds require alot of activities and tasks. my dog is getting old and is kind of a couch potato like me
i dont know if my dog socialized much as a pup but when i got him he was 6 months old. he mostly is just around my parents and sometimes other family. it takes him a while to get comfortable around men but he loves women and kids instantly.
u may be a bit too worried, dogs are pretty social on their own so as long as u dont notice anything unusual like agression theyll pretty much be happy to be around anyone
If you get her trained, she can be trained therapy dog, and teach her how to help you, and be a close companion. She will need walking everyday. But you can work with her out in the sunshine.
If you can manage to go out at all, and don’t mind paying a bit, taking your dog to the groomer is a fantastic way to get them used to people and being petted and touched. Im not a grooming expert, but Im pretty sure the groomer can give baths and cut their nails. If you can manage walks in the park that’s a great way to socialize the puppy. I know that might be hard woth agoraphobia.
Enjoy your pup. Dogs and pets in general bring us joy, amd they have the capacity to help us heal.
Edit: If it is too difficult and uncomfortable for you to go outside for walks you can look to hiring a dog walker. Prices can vary, but if you go this route then find someone reputable. Walks are going to be the biggest help for socializing your fur baby.
You gotta get outside. Take your dog for walks, tell people you’re trying to socialize your puppy so its good with people. If kids are around ask them if they want to pet the dog and tell them to go slow so as to not scare the pup.
No real way to socialize the animal and make it safe to be around then to do that. I had a lot more fun then I thought I would. People love puppies and socializing can be a real eye opener to seeing your community come to life and be helpful.
Have fun with it. Your pet is like a celebrity for this period of time. People love puppies.
My dog had to be paid special attention around kids, they weren’t used to them and were a little nippy. So make sure the kids are safe and prepared.
Young teens are good to start with then go younger with kids if their parents allow it. Or go to your families places with the dog and get used to family kids.
