If you’re not suicidal or psychotic but just experiencing severe mood swings brought on by med changes, is it generally recommended to go to the hospital to wait them out, just in case? I haven’t changed meds yet, but when I tried a taper recently my mood got very erratic. I wasn’t a risk to myself but I was worried things might reach that point before I went back to the original dose and my mood leveled out resultantly.
When I brought up to her the topic of what I might have to go to the hospital for in the future, my old therapist said a med change can be a valid reason to go (so I guess, in that sense, I already have my answer). I don’t like the hospital (though that begs the question of who does?) but I will go if I have to, of course. She said a stay for this reason would probably only last a few days anyway.
Any of you ever gone to the hospital for this reason?
I’m not sure about day programs but that’s a good idea, thank you! I would hate to go inpatient if there are other options that would help just as much, haha.
Given my history of reacting badly to med changes, I like that in Germany they’re not left to fend for themselves when their brain chemicals are being messed with and rearranged!
