Hold it in. A poem

Just keep it together
Don’t let them see
Just stuff it down
Until you become so full
Of crammed in emotion
That you become numb
Never
Ever
Let them see
Numbness is your closest friend
You can hide
All the shitty garbage
That no one wants
You to let show
They are happy if you smile
But don’t shed a tear
Don’t curse
Don’t pound your fists
On grandma’s old oak table
That would just be wrong
Always laugh
Even if you find the funny
So sickening
It makes you ill
Don’t cry please don’t cry
They hate shows of sadness
Of grief for your loss
agitation
With no better place to go.
Stay numb
Embrace the numbness
It’s your saviour
It’s what makes you appear
Normal
Even more so
Because normal people
Are allowed to cry
And feel
And curse
And have shitty garbage
But you can’t
Stuff it down
Shut your mouth
And deal with it.
