So I took the first prozac today.
I know it takes a few weeks to go into effect, but I feel kinda different. Idk probably just placebo but im worried about it triggering mania. I have a very low tolerance to most drugs, never tried a psychiatric medication so far though. But I also have a stupid low tolerance to drugs in general, so maybe its just not requiring the same build up, idk. Probably placebo.
My husband feels medicated the first few days then it turns to just feeling “normal”
I was told it would take weeks. I tried small 10 mg dose and felt benefit very soon. I am so sensitive I would cut the capsule and only take part of the capsule. Good luck with meds.
Take it exactly as prescribed. don’t double dose or increase it. Please be careful. If you feel suicidal contact someone immediately. I almost lost my mom because of this medication. However, I have a relative who swears by Prozac and said it changed her life. If you’re already feeling manic it may be a sign that it’ll make you manic, and the more it increases the more euphoric or manic you’ll be. That’s what happened with my mom. i’ve taken Lexapro but never Prozac. Lexapro is similar, and it made me feel depressed and weird and also gave me anxiety. Many of my so called schizophrenia symptoms were reactions to anti-depressants. I most likely have Bipolar 1 or manic depressive disorder.
I am currently on Strattera and Abilify and this seems to be treating the Bipolar symptoms pretty well…with Bipolar or Schizoaffective/ Less is more.

hows the prozac going?
Made me manic. He put me on some oxycarbazepine in addition to the prozac. I have not started the oxycarbazeine though because I have been drinking.
Ssri and other serotonin increasing drugs can induce mania if have mood disorders like bipolar, schizo affective etc. Its only useful if you have pure depression, pure ocd, pure schizophrenia etc.

Hey I also have intrusive thoughts and I just started duloxetine. Do you think it will help my intrusive thoughts? Also what effect has prozac had on your intrusive thoughts.

Well it just comes over time, and then one day you realise that your thoughts aren’t as bad (they still happen) but my reaction to them is nowhere near as bad as what it was. I came off Prozac for a week and my thoughts went so bad again. And that’s when I realised that it really helped me

SSRI simply numb yourself so you not able to pay attention to it as hard as you had before. Thus it makes those thoughts less appealing. The side effect is it can numb useful thoughts, information too thus you can have memory problems especially short term memory issues.
