High Dose B Vitamins?

Hi everyone,

I just saw on the internet the high-dose B Vitamins are supposed to be effective against schizophrenia. I am currently taking the standard dose of B6 and B12 and it helps alot, but I am considering taking more as high-dose is recommended. How much should I take?

Do you smoke?

I believe high dose of b vitamins can cause numbness in the hands and feet.

"High doses of supplemental B3 (niacin) may lead to vomiting, high blood sugar levels, skin flushing and even liver damage (34Trusted Source).

Additionally, high doses of B6 can cause nerve damage, light sensitivity and painful skin lesions (35Trusted Source)."

I’m currently supplementing with high dose b-vitamins.

I take a multi each day.

Also I take about 700mg niacin weekly. I tried taking 500mg daily, but I didn’t see any more benefit from higher doses, so about 100mg on average a day seems to be a good option for me. Niacin calms my mind from racing thoughts.

I also recently started taking 500mg thiamine daily. I think this may provide a huge benefit in helping my brain function normal, there has definitly come a positive change after I started this. I have not felt any adverse effects as of yet.

I’m also testing out vitamin B6 in a range of about 25-50mg daily at the moment.

Vitamin B is water soluble, so in theory the body should dispose of whatever it can not use, but the best way to stay safe is simply listening to your body and be aware of any negative changes that possibly could be attributed to the supplements.

Methylfolate has the most research in helping schizophrenia, unfortunately you have to take it for months to see results.

I’ve heard bad things about high doses of b12

And another b vitamin

Possibly b6

They say they’re water soluble so just get flushed out.

Don’t let that fool you

I bought some coconut oil because I heard it can help stave off Alzheimer’s, but then I found out it is bad for your heart, so I quit messing with it.

Yes, I’m taking that too.

Again, hard to tell what does what, but the accumulated effects of high dose b-vitamins seems to be very positive in my case. My brain is simply in much better shape.

I use coconut oil on my feet

If something that simple helped, they wouldn’t be spending all that money researching AP’s

Well it does help as a preventive measure and to help the brain mend after psychosis. Too little of some of the b-vitamins can cause psychosis in itself, so there is a link there.

But they aren’t any good to help against acute psychosis. For that you need a AP.
