DSM-5 puts schizophrenia on a spectrum, and schizoaffective disorder is on the schizophrenia spectrum. Thus schizoaffective disorder is no longer a stand-alone diagnosis.
The story you linked says the same diagnoses still exist and are separate. It says nothing like you claim.
Thanks for the correction; I misread the DSM.
DSM-5 does put schizophrenia on a spectrum, but the āand other psychotic disordersā is still distinct.
As to this topic, itās self-evident that thereās confusion among people with diagnoses of schizoaffective disorder, bipolar 1, delusional disorder, and personality disorders with psychosis (such as schizotypal). I would suggest (not that either APAs would listen to me) a psychosis spectrum that would include any kind of mental disorder with psychosis.
I had a few problems with my doctors giving me different diagnosis. The first one from the hospitalization said schizophrenia. Second said borderline personality and psychotic nos. Third said schizophrenia so did fourth. The fifth and up said schizoaffective disorder with PTSD.
I had some different diagnoses before SzA but thatās because I wasnāt forthcoming about all my symptoms. Now Iāve been honest and 3 doctors have confirmed that I have SzA.
I think my previous doctors didnāt see the importance in treating the mood problems.
Mood problems can be just as harmful as psychosis!
