In the 1990s I travelled a lot. I lived in America and it was easy to go to different places. I came back in 2002 and after that I have just visited some eastern cities in Finland. I have felt that I have not wanted to travel. I have some good memories when I visited Greece (Crete) in August 1986. Have you travelled?
Pre-sz I lived in France, Switzerland, Singapore and the States. I had travelled to many countries including Brazil, Kenya, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Bali,…
Post-sz my longest flight was 7 hours to Cabo Verde. I have mostly travelled throughout Europe including Greece, Italy, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, France and last week Spain.
I’m from Belgium and my favorite post-sz trip was to Norway and Iceland.
@Jonathan2 You have travelled a lot. I feel that I have no interest to travel any longer.
I traveled a little when I was in the Army in Germany in the late 70’s. Germany is a beautiful country. I saw London, Paris, Rome, Copenhagen, Munich, and some other smaller cities. I found it better for me to get off the beaten track, to get away from the tourist traps. I’ll never forget the sense of wonder and discovery I had when I found The Residenz in Wurzburg, Germany, and the letdown I felt when I saw Versaille. I’d like to go back some day, but I doubt if that is possible. That’s okay. I stay in my room and take trips inside my head.
I still travel, but I don’t like long distance flights as they are too exhausting. So I stay mostly in Europe. I travel once or twice a year to mix things up. This year I’ve gone to Spain in March and will go to Italy in September.
Is there a reason why you don’t like to travel anymore?
@crimby Nowadays we can see nice pics of places where we might want to visit. It is all on the Internet. When I went through a divorce in America all pics went to my former US spouse. I got negatives, but I am not going to develop these negatives because there are no photo/camera stores any longer. I can find pics of the places I visited on the net.
I am just tired of travelling. I see no need, but when I was younger as you are I wanted to see the world. I’ll be 55 in this year.
@crimby YouTube has many good travel videos. I wanted to visit Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad) and see how the city has changed, but after watching a few videos I felt no need to visit the city.
So, Leningrad has been changed back to Saint Petersburg. I got my first introduction to that city reading “Crime and Punishment”.
@crimby If I recall right, they even buried the bones of the family of the last Czar in Saint Petersburg. They are totally capitalistic now.
Capitalism hasn’t paid as well for Russia as it has other places. We want a stable, healthy Russia, as a trading partner and as a stable democracy. I think it was the Russian mafia that messed up Russia. We don’t want a Russia full of hungry people who feel like they have little to lose.
continental, U.S., but I prefer small towns with scenery here in my state, Iowa.
@crimby Yeah, they had the wild east capitalism in the 1990s. In the past 23 years their society has become more stable, but I do not know how it will be in the future.
plus infiltrators into the U.S. and other areas, Russian mafia.
@Daze I do not know anything about any mafias, but I think that Mexican and other Latin American cartels are a big threat But there are beautiful places in Central America, Costa Rica for example.
well, I don’t either, know much about mafias, we can’t, I suppose. they’ll could be equally terrorists.
My Dad was in the army so as a kid we moved a lot we lived in America and Germany, in the U.K. we lived in midlands and London
Dad got Job in Bermuda so lived there three years
Been on holiday to Spain , Paris. Amsterdam, Scotland. Ireland and Bruges New York
I’ve been to Japan and Thailand while in the navy. I sailed in the Persian Gulf waters too while in the Middle East. Don’t travel anymore unless it’s around Easter and I travel with family out of state to my relatives home. Other than that I don’t enjoy going too far from home just a trip a couple times a week to the grocery store and one day a week to see my nieces.
I live in Brazil. I lived in the U.S.A. for 8 months. Wonderful. Nowadays I don’t really care for it. Don’t like peoples much less waiting. The whole thing is a one way to stress which leads to symptons so I avoid it. Peoples talk too much. Too many voices. It gets to me eventually.
