Schizophrenia may be caused by mutations in genes which disrupt the chemical balance in the brain, according to new research.
Scientists say the study produces the’ strongest evidence yet’ of what causes the condition, which affects around one per cent of the global population.
They found people with schizophrenia had mutations in their DNA which disrupted genes involved in the transmission of chemical messengers across the brain.

Runs along the very same lines as heaps of previous research indicating genetics and epigentics in combo with later environmental factors. What always intrigues me is how the researchers find the same genes and gene mutations in people who don’t display any sz symptoms. That screams heredity and environment (to me anyway).
Yes - there is a ton of evidence that supports this general line of research and its conclusions. Its just the details that seem to be in the process of being worked out, really.

That is a contradiction. Not everyone with neurodevelopmental disorders such as intellectual disability, autism, and ADHD has schizophrenia. My theory would be a social darwinian and eugenics motivation.That and possibly their brains open a natural door way.

A lot of people with the genetic mutation of down syndrome died in germany at the time of the nazi party. However, not all people with down syndrome died prematurely in that time period. I would argue an environmental cause, IE the nazis as the cause. The same way I would argue evil spirits being the root cause for schizophrenia. They are the ones causing the surreal experiences when it comes to telepathy and so on, even possibly the negative symptoms with cognition, as it is proven with transcranial magnetic stimulation that parts of the brain can be inhibited to create neurological and cognitive deficits.

I like this theory far far better then other theories… like… “your mother was cold and distant and once changed a cat littler box and it’s all her fault” I hate that theory the most.

Its everything that has been said before. Genes, inherited, drugs, head injuries, whatever is in the evironment at any given time-or era. Some people are more predisposed because of whats in their genes-or DNA.
What any culture went through in the past is in our DNA.
We just need to fix it!
I fell down when I was little and hit my head, once on a car door and once on the ground. This would add to my other environmental causes.
Good possibility. My son went through the back of a pickup truck window and was knocked unconsious, had a concussion.
He also was a heavy drug user. may have been abused by his father, and my family has the mental genes.
