Schizophreniform disorder is a psychotic disorder diagnosed in someone who shows symptoms of schizophrenia for the better part of at least one month but for less than six months. If the symptoms persist for six months or more, the diagnosis is changed to schizophrenia or, in some cases, bipolar or schizoaffective disorder.
My doctor diagnosed me as schizophreniform after a month and 9 to 10 months later diagnosed me as sza. She did it at that time frame because she kinda forgot to do it at the 6 month mark. It didn’t bother me one way or another.
Yep, she explained that it was a temporary diagnosis. Although, I cant remember what she said it would be if my psychotic symptoms went away.
I was honestly hoping for psychotic depression. It seems like I have psychotic anxiety, if that were even a thing. When my anxiety gets worse my stress gets worse which triggers my psychosis. Its better now that I’m on saphris, but the two seem to he connected.
By the time I was diagnosed, I had been experiencing symptoms for a while. I had honestly never heard of it before this poll. And I’m totally not jacked up on Mountain Dew either lol.
Schizophreniform is my current diagnosis; I was diagnosed with it six months after my first and (to date) only break which would mean I’ve had it as my diagnosis for about a year and a half. Shortly after receiving that diagnosis I made the mistake of ceasing contact with my medical team except for refills. I’ve experienced mild psychotic symptoms past the initial six months following my break and I believe the stipulation for schizophreniform is the cessation of psychotic symptoms after those critical six months? so I’m probably due for a psychiatric checkup and possibly a revised diagnosis.
