Has anyone ever had to come off meth?

My step cousin is a meth addict. Has anyone on this forum been able to come off meth and how did you do it?

Well, I don’t know how addictive meth is compared to crack but in the 80’s crack was the most addictive drug there was and I smoked it for four years. I got clean in 1990 and quit all drugs and drinking by going to AA, CA and NA.

I started off going to one meeting a week and eventually I was going to 5 or 6 meetings a week. I enjoyed meetings, there was camaraderie and entertaining stories and cool people and I learned a lot about addiction and recovery; I got a sponsor and worked the steps and followed the principles of the program and practiced rigorous honesty.

They say anyone can get clean if they have the capacity to be honest. In 1990 the craving and obsession for drugs was lifted from me and has never came back. When I was in NA meetings there were heroin addicts and speed addicts who were getting clean so maybe a meth addict stands a chance of getting clean.

There are meetings all over; you can go online and look up the NA website and probably find where some meetings are. I don’t know how to get your step cousin into the program, if they want help NA is there and it’s free. If they don’t want to quit that makes the situation tougher, an addict won’t quit because of jail or because their loved ones want them too or by threats, they only quit when things get so bad there’s no other alternative.

There are the many unfortunate addicts who never quit and die from their disease but it doesn’t have to be that way. Maybe go to a meeting yourself and talk to the people there and see if they have any ideas how to help your step cousin, maybe one of them will go talk to them and introduce them to the program. After all NA, CA and AA are based on one alcoholic or addict helping another.

If you could get a recovering addict from NA to talk to your cousin they might get through to them. An addict will often trust another addict who was once where they are and understands what the practicing addict is going through.

I used ice which is crystal meth. It was actually easy to come off it

I took crystal MDMA once and the comedown was so rough I never did it again.

I’ve also only used MDMA once, and it triggered a weird psychosis for me. For a “party” drug - it’s weirdly scary

In psych ward I failed a drug test and tested positive for opiates.
