Has anybody tried a dopamine agonist for raised prolactin and decreased sex drive?

There is cabergoline and otheres that are not ergot derived. Dupposed to be safer. I could bring prolactin to normal. Raise testosterone and give you sex drive theoretically. Lol

Im on abilify injection. Could this work? It activates dopamine which forces the prolactin down and frees up testosterone

I have my apointment tomorrow. Im gonna ask about this and get my injection reduced

Well butrin is supposed to increase sex drive. But it interacts with abilify. It inderctly increases sex drive as a side effect. I think i just read that

I’ve tried a few things that raise dopamine and they have the propensity to cause psychosis even for example ~1.25mg made my thoughts a bit wavy with 90mg a day being the max dosage. My advice is that you’re not going to do well going down this route

I have tried dopamine agonists as well with bad outcomes, like mucuna pruirens.

I have better luck with weak dopamine agonists like curcumin. This can offer a sense of better wellbeing, but I don’t think it helps libido much.

If I were you I’d just be patient and see if your body transitions from your previous AP still. It can literally take more than a year for the body to fully transition after taking a AP long term.

I have never tried a dopamine agonist, but it sounds like a bad idea for people with schizophrenia. You would think it would counter the effects of AP’s to a certain extent and likely bring on psychosis eventually in most schizophrenics.

I’m not an expert on this stuff but you might as well try quitting your meds before using a dopamine agonist. Which is a bad idea for most people.

I mean, take one thing for dopamine antagonism or partial agonism and than take another full agonist?

Sounds a bit like screwing a nut a full turn right with your right hand, then unscrewing a full turn left with your left hand over and over. You’ll never get that nut on.

I’m on Abilify and it has not affected my sexuality at all

My guess is that your sex drive problem may not be induced by Abilify. It could be a vestige of your old meds and you need to give it time or it could just be your age

I think i might ask for wellbutrin. And lower my abilify injection to 100mg.

Am abilify now and its made me more horny almost hypersexual. Maybe its something as i dout its abilify it has lowest rate of sexual problems /prolactin raising.
