I’m planning on a home health aide course and my local college has free tuition for the disabled.
Good for you HuckFinn! Just out of curiosity, have you ever looked into online classes that you can take at home on your own computer? Being physically on campus is very healthy and nice because it puts you around people. But online classes are an alternative to being on campus if it doesn’t work out.
I have considered it yes. I hear Stanford has online free classes also
Sounds like a great idea!
Best of luck with it @HuckFinn
Ty @Wave I’m not certain what I’ll take just yet tho but I’m looking at it
I took a hha/cna/pca class prior to starting nursing school. It was great. Lots of hands on clinical practice before you get the certificate. I never worked as one and my cert expired because of relapse and severe depression. I wish you luck, you’ll have fun and learn so much and meet so many different people.
I like to hear that. I started school because I was just sort of expected to at least go to college, and things turned out really well, to make a long story short.
But I started like a typical reluctant scholar…I partied and cut class to workout the first year, then crammed for exams and made the Dean’s list.
Don’t do like I did, I ruined a career in medicine and had to do clinical psychology instead because of my delinquency.
I don’t drink @mortimermouse. I haven’t in about 18 years. But with my illness I don’t expect to be a clinical psychologist either… I might just take a photo class honestly
Apparently I could also just take a weekend course and be a home health aide
I’m trying to remember I think the CNA course was like 4 weeks (6 hour days) and the HHA was a week long in NYS. I had gone off clozaril and was doing great at the time. Then about the time I graduated and was ready to start looking for jobs my symptoms started to return and I was beginning to get really really depressed. Ended up in the hospital a couple months later.
I hear ya. Our illness is tough. I don’t know what will happen just yet… Like I said maybe I’ll take a photo class and do the health aide gig thru the county… I’m weighing options now
I did my class through the county and it was co-sponsored by the local community college.
hope it goes well @HuckFinn… best of luck for tuition classes …!!!
