You guys are right; there really is no such thing as an ethical consumer in this society. Companies lie, people lie. Better to just take what I want and figure out some other way to fight unrestricted capitalistic efforts, right? That’s what everyone’s telling me? Well tell me this; is it truly better, or is it just easier? Either way, I can’t find a solution to this problem. It’s like the moral version of living to fight another day, the unfortunate part being that this does nothing for your emotions. It’s like the world is so shít that I feel guilty for living in it.
You can only do what you can do to make the positive changes you want to see in society, but its like sitting with a bucket by the ocean trying to remove all the water, its just too big for one person to make a significant change.
I also feel that guilt. And share the cynicism of many of our power to effect profound social change through individual choices, however enlightened. Activism/politics is one alternative venue though.
Everything in this world is so tainted, from the worst companies to the best; I’m beginning to see that there’s really no difference. I just hope we can find some way to balance the scales some, make it more difficult to exploit an inherently imperfect system.
