The gutsiest, greatest downhill run of all time! Enjoy!
I was a 10 year old boy when I saw this live on television…the 1976 Winter Olympics.
It still gives me goosebumps!
That was friggin amazing.
As far as incredible sports achievements go, I have this race at number 3 on my own personal highlight list.
Only Secretariat winning the Triple Crown at the Belmont Stakes…and Ali knocking out Foreman in round 8 are ahead of Klammer in my book.
Klammer almost wipes out 3 times in that run! His reckless abandon and throwing caution to the wind to win the Gold medal was mesmerizing!
Maybe number 4 is the U.S.A. beating Russia 4-3 in ice hockey at the 1980 Winter Olympics. I remember watching that on TV, it was pretty dramatic.
Not exactly a sporting event per say…
But how could we forget the Man on Wire in 1974. He tightrope walked between the two New York Twin Towers!
Superman!
The Olympics seemed like a big deal back then.
Reminds me of the old ABC line- “The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat”
1976 was the year I first went to Disney World it was a magical fantasy land.
Probably because there was no Internet. Rock Concerts, Olympics…etc. were bigger events that were worth waiting for.
Now if something is missed, you just go to Youtube and watch it the next day.
