For people that think taking no meds have better long term prognosis

OK there is sizeable evidence that people with psychotic symptoms that choose to seek recovery without medication are experiencing less psychosis when they are reviewed at the 10 or 20 year mark.

But I cry foul. Can we ever get a definitive study on this is it possible to define a study that will give us some accurate insights.

In terms of prognosis , what is stopping any reasonable person saying , that people who are med free , have a better long term outlook because there sympthoms are not as severe or requiring of medical treatment. Can we ever ever get a definitive line. Why are people that oppose long term treatment with APs , so intollerant of that real possibility. Can anyone please enlighten us. Am I missing something?

I don’t want to rehash old debates , that is boring now. If you can point me to a study that supports a med free recovery for people who have severe and disabling symptoms , I’d like to see it.

No - there is lots of evidence to suggest that the opposite is true - people who take medications do better and live longer:

The question is: how was the quality of life of people without meds for twenty years compared to the quality of life for those who did take them during those twenty years?

Yeah I’ve read plenty on this , ‘mad in america’ , a generally and admittedly, antipsychiatry publication , have ‘research’ that I would say is accurate in part. The key issue is the control groups , and what kind of so called schizophrenia sufferers are included.

Actually i think people should be given a chance to stop antipsychotic after 3 months of continous treatment for first episode psychosis. If they still experience unbearable psychosis then the doctors should continue the medication treatment, this is what I think

For people like me who had been taking antipsychotic for 6 years,I think the chance of not taking medication and remain mentally sane is very low

I’d like a control group that suffer psychosis on a scale accross all significant modalities , for a period of at least 2 years , where they have being untreated for that period.

Evidence may be available that some people who have suffered psychosis do infact recover without meds , but seeking to apply that across the board is down right dishonest at worst and deluded at best

Yep… That’s right

I guess I’m one of the few.

Nick,
Again that is something that is very hard to measure.

You gotta remember that the people that are opinionated on this site have well defined personalities and are generally smart , not the typical outpatient role call in a psych clinic.

So you’ll be a junky all your life.

Sorry bro.

Petester , don’t snipe , consider yourself lucky , if indeed you function well.

I appreciate the input.

What’s your definition of functioning well?

Do you work? Do you Socialise , can you sustain and maintain relationships?

Yeah I do work. And I socialize with my coworker.

SO JUST BECAUSE I DON’T MAINTAIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP?

MEANS THAT MY OPINION IS IRRELEVANT?

No , I’m not saying that , your probably thinking sexual relationship , personal relationships? People you are friends with over a sustained period.

Yes but I accept I am junky, denial is hard to live and wastes time

I have never had Any over a sustainable period… So what?

Then jump on it young brah before it slips away… Because it will.
