Feeling panicked

I have a panicky feeling in my arms and fingertips. The kind of feeling you get right before the ‘fight or flight’ response picks a side.

I’m dissociating quite a bit right now. I tend to do that to protect myself from mental hurt, but it turns into restlessness. But whenever I walk further than a few meters, I feel that panicky feeling even stronger.

How do I rid myself of it? I’ve had 50mg Seroquel three times today, usually one dose is enough to put me to sleep.

I can’t stand to be in my own skin, I can’t stand to be anywhere. I want to flee or destroy something. Hide or yell until my lungs collapse.
I’m so conflicted and uncomfortable!!

Have you spoken to your dr about it?

I can get panicky since I changed medication from olanzapine to latuda and moved interstate but I try to get through it or ride it through by doing things that calm me or comfort and help me through it.

I wanted to get muscle relaxant medication to take when needed but that can be addictive so my psychiatrist did not want to write it out to me at this point in time.

Water can sooth , taking care of yourself and giving yourself lots of tender loving care to get /ride through it.

If you are not paranoid you could talk to someone close to you and ask to spend time with them or tell your dr and make a care plan.

There are good care plans that can be individually made to suit you.

A warm bath or shower .

Sometimes I just lay in bed and feel the need to do so.

I saved myself from having to go to hospital by just spending a few days in bed resting and trying to talk nicely to myself and crewchette and maybe comforting food or make home baked bread or so.

Warm milk maybe.

Hope you will get through it soon and find coping methods .

It’s a aweful feeling and I still get it too but thankfully I’m ok through what has been recently.

I am already in the hospital, and I told the nurses but they just suggested more Seroquel

@Pikasaur. Here’s a reply that @Ninjastar created for what’s worked for her in terms of bringing calm:

Put an ice pack on the back of your head. This will cool down your brain and reduce activity in your limbic system, where emotions happen.

Do a task with simple, clear steps. I like baking. I follow the recipe, and it’s easy enough that I don’t get frustrated, but it requires enough concentration that I don’t have room to think about other things. Cleaning also helps.

Engage your five senses. This will remind you what is real and what isn’t. Listen to soothing music. Smell something pleasant, like an essential oil. Suck on a hard candy. Look at pictures of things you enjoy. Feel something with an interesting texture, like a piece of Velcro or a stress ball.

don’t forget your breathing exercise, that should stop the flight or fight response. You have one right?
