According to the source article, the main reason the pharmaceutical industry gave up on clinical trials is because they have not yet found a new genetic target to address with medication. In the absence of new genetic information, and the lackluster results of lumateperone and min-101, they have hit a brick wall on new drug treatment and are instead focusing on long term studies of current drugs. I fully agree with this decision. Biologists can continue to look for genetic markers of schizophrenia, and when they find new ones, new drugs will be developed to try and address those targets. Until then, funding SHOULD go towards long term safety studies.
And all that is not even addressing the false claim by the author that no new drugs have been developed since Clozapine.
The NIMH is actually very important. It has funded a lot of large and consequential research projects related to mental health in general and also schizophrenia specifically.
I know that Fuller Torrey is quite a divisive figure within mental health circles . I’m wondering whether there should be more focus on quality rather than quantity when it comes to clinical trials .

Example to explanation the logic of how long patient should be treated after a first episode of psychosis
On the premise that you have never driven a car before,and you are now sitting on the driving seat for the first time in your life
At first,you need some advice,time in order to learn to drive a car on the roads without harm yourself or other cars
initial advice,time and training cannot be replaced with a drug that make you drive the car directly
When the sz occurs and becomes connected to the person’s mental state,and the medical intervention begins and ends after 4 weeks to treatment the first episode of psychosis,throughout this period ;
A persons loses the ability to lead his mental,emotional and behavioral processes as normal as he did before sz,now he becomes like a person driving a car for the first time in his life
The person needs some advice,time in order to learn to lead his mental/emotional and behavioral processes while he is under the influence of sz pathogen (hallucinations)
This cannot be replaced by chemical drug that performs the same tasks mentioned above
In sz,never expect that the medication will do everything as it does in all classical diseases,but the medicine will do one thing in the person( making continuity in the biological life possible ),and all other things are left to the person’s own efforts that are supported by family,social and state care all lifetime
Mysteriously, after the end of the first month of medical intervention,new immune things grow in the body nature that are sufficient to resist the schizophrenia existence without need for any medical intervention
It seeks in every way to fragment the schizophrenia existence as it is fragmented 24 hours of the day to period of wakefulness and sleep

If sz is real genetic disease, the genetic medication treats the causes (chemical)and does not concern with the existential/emotional symptoms at all
