Half of my fb friends believe the movie is a hilarious godsend with the potential to reawake Man’s slumbering collective conscience. The other half believe it’s a large pile of rotting, rat-infested uncollected rubbish, redolent with self-congratulatory satire and heavily signposted irony and worse than the global disaster it’s trying to avert.
I think this is one of those rare examples when I’ll have to watch the movie before making up my mind.
The people who are most fanatical about the film are the same people I’ve been telling to get out of my face for years now anyhow, so this is nothing new.
I get along with most people IRL, I’ve put a lot of effort into being able to do so. I’m very capable of developing and using social capital. Fanatical zealots are still the minority and easily ignored be they JWs or climate whackdoodles.
20 seconds later, the same character shows an uglier side when the scientist tries to console her about her recent breakup:
“Why don’t you mind your own business, you old f**k?!”
The movie is a dark comedy, with satirical elements and some real science crumbs intertwined. I was expecting something more like The Martian or Interstellar, but it’s totally different. Not jaw dropping but decent.
I haven’t watched it yet but I’ll probably do so soon just to see what all the fuss is about. Was pleasantly surprised by Squid Game, which seemed to garner similar reactions.
