I skipped a bath last week cos I knew I wasn’t going anywhere or seeing anyone. That night my dad ate a THC gummy and had a bad reaction. We had to call the paramedics. I stood as far as I could from then. I know I didn’t smell good. I generally bathe daily or every other day. But I was embarrassed
I think we’d get along. I lack … subtlety.
My dad is downright rude sometimes. If I’m not going anywhere I forget to brush my teeth. I literally forget. He’ll say “God your breath stinks.”
Once when I was a teen we went to this restaurant. I had my favorite sweater on. We got to the restaurant parking lot and parked. He said to me,” You’re not going in with me. You look like a jake!” I thought I looked good. So I stayed in the car with the doors locked til he came back.
That’s cruel. My father is cruel too. He only mentions the bad things
I used to shower once per week out of no choice I was a kid and it caused people to bully me. Now I make it a point to have one everyday or I won’t sleep.
Make a new habit to shower atleast once a month.
Yes it does matter!
Do you want to be shunned or fit the stereotype of the dishevelled, smelly schizophrenic?
Clean clothes every few days and shower daily using a body wash or something fragrant is essential.
You will feel better if you take a shower.
Lots of people might not know this but taking a shower and shampooing everyday is not necessary and could prove to be unhealthy.
You should try to take a shower at least once or twice a week.
This is what I’m shooting for.
Taking frequent showers strips out essential oils from our bodies and dries out our skin.
Strange thing, after posting this, I haven’t spoken about this anywhere, my caseworker session brought up that he wants to work on my selfcare. I asked him what that meant and he said hygiene. I’m not sure how he will help me. I’ve been struggling with this for so long. I hope I can care.
"But I shower like a few times a year."
Try and force yourself to shower at the very least, once every week or two…to avoid people moonwalking away from you.
I shower every day without fail
I used to have trouble with showers, but my negatives are in remission so I’m lucky
I use to wash/shower/bathe every 6-8 weeks and i didnt smell too bad but i didnt exercise much or break a sweat so i wasnt smelly, i change my under wear every day and socks,
i have improved my hygiene now i bathe every 2-3 weeks or less if i can, my goal is a bath every 1w- 10 days, i think its a motivational issue.
I shower everyday before i had a very bad hygiene problem because of the illness its not good to shower few times a year, bacteria builds up and you might get sick. You should shower more.
Yes, it matters. It gets to be pretty rude.
If you don’t bathe for a long enough time you can develop a fatal disease caused by lice. A lot of people died from it during the Battle of Stalingrad during World War 2 since for obvious reasons no one could take a bath. I think it’s called typhus fever, or dengue.
Besides all the negative effect of dirtyness you might develop serious complication called ingrownhair.its kind of inflamation and might be life threatening disease
Hello! Welcome to the forum!
Skipping showers is common with schizophrenia and depression. It may not feel like it, but showering does matter. Once a week is recommended to avoid sickness, infection and skin problems.
I don’t know your situation so I can’t say for sure if others notice, but I think it is likely that they do. Most people have natural body odor that becomes more noticeable after about 4-6 days of skipping showers.
In my opinion, wearing clean clothes is very important, but less important than cleaning your body regularly.
Good luck and good health to you, friend.
You definitely want to bathe/shower regularly. Once every two days is the minimum I would ever do personally. Normally I shower every day.
Chances are people do notice but they can’t approach the subject delicately so they don’t.
i shower on wednesday and take a bath on sunday… i think that’s enough… but i would say once a week would be preferably…
